This is a strange little map suitable for up to 4 players given to us by the mapper recently hosted on PlanetUnreal, Platinum.
This is a level purely made for DMing - there is no pretence of a theme and there is little in the way of aesthetics. Much of the level looks the same and a few variations in design would be welcome. Connectivity is good throughout but the layout seems a little messed up, as does the architecture, as if Platinum had thrown lots of shapes around without creating any real structure. The many dislodged tiles and some dodgy brushwork, unfinished trim and some areas with no trim make the level seem a little rough around the edges. Really I am making it sound worse than it is - remember this is in comparison to the silky-smooth flowing architecture of Akuma's and Faceless's maps. But as the author has proven in the screenshots of his newer maps he is already well on his way to improving this.
Lighting is hit-and-miss - with the white lights looking expecially out of place. Textures are mostly bricks, wood and floor tiles taken from UTCrypt, which are ok but there are better textures available. Gameplay, however, is where it counts and the Temerity shows promise with its many multi-layered sections and spiral-like layout in most of the rooms, meaning players can work their way up towards the top to gain an advantage. However the dodgy building style coupled with wide open rooms means the poly count reaches above 250 in places and the node count double that. This has an effect on performance and while not too bad could be better, especially considering the large amount of polys does not seem to be spent very well. Items are placed well on the whole, there are no uber-powerups unbalancing the level and bots work as well as any other map. Sound cues are used well and the custom soundtrack suits the level perfectly.
