This is an industrial themed level, which has quickly become one of my favourite deathmatch levels.

The layout of this level is hard to explain. The level features bag loads of multi-level arenas, which are connected together by an intricate network of corridors, walkways, and ramps. Architecturally, this map is just about spot on. The architecture is just right for this genre of level. Combined with excellent texturing, it really makes this level a treat to look at - let alone play. There are no plain passages or rooms at all. Every little nook and cranny has been worked into an excellent level. Every area has it's own architectural features, and provide an excellent backdrop. As I've already mentioned, the texturing is absolutely wonderful. Take a look at the screenshots to see what I mean. The lighting is also excellent. The light brightnesses are well varied and couldn't be better. A wide range of coloured lighting has been used well to bring life to the level. In fact, the lighting is the best part of the level. The DM-Phobos music track has been used. It fits the level surprisingly well. Ambient sounds have been used well, and also make the setting more convincing. Mechanical sounds, humming lights, all add to an already excellent level.

The AI is top notch. The bots can collect and use all powerups well. There are some sniper windows, but the bots don't use them. Personally I wouldn't either as they don't overlook any busy areas. Item placement is also perfect. Every item and weapon except the redeemer have been included. I think the redeemer should have been included though. In closed levels like this one, I use it as a fire and forget kind of weapon. But on the other hand, there's not enough room to fly it here. Either way, the item placement is flawless. Overall, gameplay is very good. This is due to the excellent layout, lighting and architecture. Almost every area of the map is multi-layered, which means you're constantly checking above and below you, as well as left, right and behind. This is something that a lot of levels leave out. Niklas has done it perfectly.

In conclusion, this is a level no self-respecting deathmatch player should be without. The immense variety of light colours really add depth to this level, as well as excellent architecture, layout, and just about everything else you can name. When I reviewed Niklas' last map, CTF-Synchro, I though it was his best level to date. Now I know I was wrong (no offence! ;-) ). The sheer richness of this level blows any competing industrial levels away. As you might of already gathered, this level is a must get. Whether you play it for botmatches, LAN, or net games, I'm sure this level will become as instant hit. Try six to eight players for a fast paced game.

DM RustyInc. is;

  • Rich

  • Fast paced

  • Excellent, in all areas

    DM RustyInc. isn't;

  • A level you'll get bored of quickly

  • For players who do nothing but snipe

  • A level that I can mark down in any way

    Teaching points for author:

  • Go for a more elaborate setting next time. Take a look at DM-Morpheus, DM-Phobos, DM-KGalleon, CTF-LavaGiant etc.

    i don't know, some of the texture alignment stands out and the brushwork looks funny to me, flows ok though

    9.5?? It looks only average and gameplay is a bit dodgy too. How can you say this is on a par with Seraphim?

    Just thought I'd put my two cents in here... This map deserves OWNAGE! I've had it in my map rotation since it came out, and STILL play it, to this day! I may add just ONE TEENY, TINY, MINISCULE detail/commentary/anal-retentive comment, though...there is ONE, (coun't em) ONE both path that's a little loopy, in one of the rooms, next to a ramp. Any bot that tends to camp WILL camp there. Every single time. That aside, I think this map is BRILLIANT!

    This map is garishly colorful. Geometry rivals that of the Rubics Cube. In fact, I think it IS the Rubics Cube following the onslaught of a lawn mower. Lots of nifty fragging angles, in its only defense. Kinda fun still.

    this map, to me had NO theme, and was quite boxy, too big, and just didn't feel right....but was still, fun when I booted it up the first time....6.5
