I d/led this map expecting anything but what I got. The title implied some sort of gothic, temple sort of graveyard theme. No screenshot was available to let me know what I was getting into so I reluctantly took the request. Honestly, Im glad I did. This map is a shining example of how far UT has come since its first year to the present day.
The map takes place in the ever familiar UTtech map theme. The map resembles Stalwart in both texture selection, lighting, and architecture. The map comes equiped with the usual attributes of a UT tech map, randomly placed crates and those popular grates on the floors that have water running below (this is officially the 1251rst UT map to do this since DM-Turbine and who even knows how many u1 maps did this too). Theres even windows on the ceiling to expose the skybox. Visually, this map would have been considered average in UTs early life, but as time went by the community expected more from UT maps, so this map falls just under par in the looks department. the majority of the lighting appears white, though colored lights are placed in certain locations. The map itself is pretty barren, aside from crates, ceiling gurders, light fixtures, and grates, not much else is really in there besides guns and items. The reason the awe score is so low is NOT because the map is made poorly, it is constructed rather well and solid for a map of this kind. The score for awe is low because the map simply doesnt arouse any awe. Weve seen this map more times than many of us would like, the look, the smell, the taste...weve been there already. Unless you happen to be a person who still plays DM-Stalwart (and friends) and find that kind of mappage mind blowingly impressive, I think youll share my view. No offense to the mapper on the maps looks, but this map could also be named DM-UtechBrickMapq727378237. Originality = Im sorry Miss, but I believe weve met.
On the plus side, this map runs fast and the playability is smooth as silk. The gameplay is basic, you basically run through rooms, under pillars and up/down ramps, but it works. I actually had a good game with bots, they know the map and go for everything. Crank those suckers to Godlike and you may find yourself overwelmed. For those used to 133t mappage, I say pass this one right here and now. But for anyone looking for a quick romp online with a buddy, theres no reason why this map should be overlooked.
The Prophets Verdict: This map is underaverage in visuals and has standard layout and gameplay tactics. We all may have enjoyed this map a few years ago, but now Im not so sure. On the plus side, clans and peeps with low end machines will should find the most use of this map: Its playability factor is great and any clan or low poly server(with large player loads)will find this map is good for an online war. The visuals may be oldskool now, but they arent anywhere as bad as some of these lower-scored trash maps. So what am I saying? Oldskool map that may be worth a quick net game. Add a point if all you care about is fragging your buddies.
NOTE: This map plays better than Stalwart. Stalwart sucks. |

| Hector 01-16-2003 11:37 PM MST | Rating: 6 | | I'm not a big fan of the tech-werehouse theme, but this isn't a bad little map. It's true, it is a bit repetitive, but it doesn't mean it's bad.
I'd recommend this map for InstaGib, because it adds a bit of an edge to it. But don't take my word for it, I practically live for InstaGib, go out there and try it.
