I remember this from awhile ago, I just naturally assumed it was reviewed already. Raiden looks and feels like an oldskool UT playpen, taking place in an UT ShaneChurch-style ‘temple’ area with rain pouring in from the exposed roof.
Visually, the map looks about average now. Back in the day, it would have been held in higher regard for it’s “appeal”, but nowadays it feels typical. You could place this map along side DM-Gothic, DM-Bishop, and DM-Codex and see the familiar style; standard. One neat thing about the visuals is the rain effect, which is uncommon for UT. While it is very restrained in here, there are some “puddles” located near the exposed downpour. Aside from that, the map is a neat little generic location with average lighting.
Gameplay wasn’t astonishing back when it was released, and playing it again I found myself feeling the same way. The map DOES flow very good, bots know their shit and they can navigate the map all over you if you underestimate them (especially that bastard Loque). Item placement fits the map and allows for a current movement throughout the place, the shield belt is placed in a neat little location (though you may not even know it’s there, I played 5 games before I realized where the hell it was) and there is also a very “Curse-style” secret wall were the armor is. This plays as well as any of the better Epic maps made for the game, this one is definitely a wise choice for a server game.
The Prophet’s Verdict: I probably would have rated this the same way when it was first released (a 6 instead of 5 since back then our NC reviews were 1- 10). This map is intended to play as a fast, fun map without wasting any time trying to be more than it is. Raiden was always the “coolest” character in Mortal Kombat.

| [morpheus] 03-02-2003 04:01 AM MST | Rating: 6 | | This switch from Nalicity 2 to Nalicity 3 left some excellent maps burried in the depths of the servers, forgotten. This map for one has a gorgeous visual appearance. It's structure, however, doesn't offer a very enjoyable slaughter. Maybe the low ceiling is the one to blame.
| Shadowlurker 03-02-2003 05:47 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | I'll rate this based upon what it was like back then, for this is a very old map.
It had fairly good gameplay, tight though. Graphics wise it was adequate but not spectacular. The rain was nice and the theme was well executed... if a little vague.

{DS} users seem 2 b a bit selfish??
| Lophead 04-29-2003 09:32 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | I too will also rate it how I did when it was released (which was a while ago now!). Darkangel was one of a great school of classic PU mappers back in the day. Its a shame hes not still around because I reckon he'd be producing some quality stuff if he was.
Anyone remember DM-Paranoid for Unreal?? I loved that map, especially with the Serpentine mod!

| ThaKillaTwinz 09-10-2004 01:14 AM MDT | Rating: 7.5 | | Be prepared for some interesting dogfights in this map. Needs a bit more trim it seems, but the orange light is a nice contrast to the cold blue from the sky. Nicely done rain effect, except like other rain maps (including DM-Hydrophobia, the mother of all rainmaps) the skybox has stars in it. Last time i checked when it rained at night the clouds covered up the stars. Still, a nice one!!
| Bullie 02-16-2005 08:48 AM MST | Rating: 9 | | After all these years this one still holds his own. Great visuals and rocking gameplay. Bit cramped maybe in some spots so don't go higher then 5 players. Can't believe this guy made only one DM map?
D/L!
