This is a cool map! DM-Kinetica is a deep-space mining vessel exposed to the clutches of a black hole. It's designed for 4-12, and has all the attributes of a good map.
So you're on this space vessel, miles from home, with nothing better to do than blast people to smithereens. Works for me! There are three main levels to the place, plus an upper platform for the infamous sniper rifle, and a couple of lower areas dipping down into the bowels of the craft. Elevators, jump pads and ramps help you to change locations, and the relentless tug of the nearby black hole pulls you toward the floor as you fly off a ledge into gibmania. The jump pads are cool in that they not only hurl you up, but some bounce you around before you hit home plate. The frame rates were good, with maybe a spot or two causing a slight problem with the very slow machines.
The texture work was great. It's so easy to mess up when using these particular textures, but the author, Nick 'Kruel' Herres, did a fine job keeping the gaudiness out of the picture. There are lots of illuminated panels, signs, colorful panning textures, and proper light fixture techniques. TV monitors were used, which were really warp zones; this is a cool novelty technique that I used on one of my maps.
The bots did fine, presenting me with a challenge as they went for all the pickups. They do have a problem with a jump pad sometimes, as they trampoline for a bit before they get it together. The item placement was a welcome sight. The better weapons were a challenge, and health was at a minimum, making me work for my keep.
A combination of white and colored lighting helps to put you in the mood. The author did quite a bit of work with light radii, lens flares, and appropriate colors around similarly colored textures to make a complete map. The sounds were all there, including music, which the author suggests turning off so you can bask in the ambient sounds of the map. |

| Blooddog_sweden | Rating: 7 | | Fun,for a while.
| Lustmord | Rating: 8 | | A nice consistent theme and the lighting is really well done. I'm keeping it.
| sextech | Rating: 7.5 | | Stellar map! Cool lighting and really cool launch pads. But it lacks fun factor. Maps can be the best looking map, no texture missalinements, low frame-rates, nice flow, but if it isn't fun to play, it sucks! 7.5
| Deathwing | Rating: 7 | | Good map? Yes! Deserve Ownage? Nope.
| Tomlord 08-18-2003 08:28 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | Launch pads? Allright. But there are not enough jump pads. Three and all in one room. Thats not good. Only one good part is about bridge. Amp, is good chioce, but i dont see shield belt...it can be my fault, than iam sorry, if it isnt my fault put him somewhere. Only six.....but i will play this map more and i must find some strategy and then i can get thism map biggger score
