Like all the maps boasting ‘Heaven’ in the title, this one doesn’t quite give me the ‘almighty’ impression. Garden of Heaven was not a garden, nor was it heaven and this other map I beta tested recently called Golden Heaven or something, well that was more like a tech map with porn in it.
Where was I, oh yes Heaven’s edge. This map has some of the stuff we’ve seen before. Floating space with lots of stars and planets and such, floating structures with low gravity and abyss-like falls that deflate you like the drop of doom seen in DM-Morpheus. The big structures I mentioned are big ice cones, or that is what I think they are. There is an inner building that uses Shane Church textures and has bland interiors, as well as dead ends and a strange lighting scheme. Purple lights emit from blue smoke pots and other similar sources are just as unmatched. There is brush over-lapping in spots and random arches populate the outside cones. There really doesn’t appear to be a theme here, and the place looks very unconvincing. The build style is in between newbie style and average. Why do most of these Heaven maps take place in space? Is Heaven in space? In my younger catholic schoolboy days, when I still was positive that God existed, I always thought he lived in the clouds, surrounded by Victoria’s Secret Angels and dead comedians. I guess perceptions have changed since I left organized religion, or maybe all these mappers simply can’t map Heaven.
Gameplay, well it sucks. There are way too many cones outside, all on the same level with each other, spread way out with random weapon placement. I jumped to several pads before I got any ammo, being shot by some ghey bot that was a mile away but could see me since we were on the same ‘floor’. Inside is weird, lots of dead end paths and a staircase that draws out to the middle of a room and blocks you if you are unlucky enough to fall off the edge. Item placement is strange inside as well, and there are a lot of teleportation spawn points that take you inside this interior place, which gets annoying and cluttered fast. If you’re gonna play this, pump your player load at your own risk.
The Prophet’s Verdict: Under par and lacking in areas of fun, gameplay and theme. I didn’t particularly like this map at all, imagine a DM-Morpheus oversized and without purpose, flow, or style.
PS-If You think I am a bastard because of this review, nobody cares.

| ChiTown Boy 03-19-2003 11:36 AM MST | Rating: 7 | | I thought this map was very good. Maps use of lighting gave it a real feel to it. Art work displayed was very cool. Game play was fast and bots played very well. Low gravity was a nice touch, keeps you on your toes.

| HillGiant 03-26-2003 02:01 PM MST | Rating: 7 | | Wow, surprised to see this map, I made this a few years back, Lots of people seem to like it, so I have been working on a CTF version of it for ut2k3 after someone posted about it in the forums at another site.Thx for the review, and too whoever requested it it is a good review,I was real bad with dead ends back in those days :(, hehe. anyway for those of you who liked this map, I will have a UT2K3 version of it soon :) (ctf this time around) btw this map was reviewed on Nali City before and received a 9 and got on the hot list, and the screenshot pictured here is quite possibly the worst shot u could take of the map unless you went up against a wall and took a shot of the brick.I have seen lots of good comments on it though, so check it out

| SirTahngarth 03-31-2003 01:02 AM MST | Rating: 3 | | This map is... puzzling. the edge of heaven, it isnt. considering how deadly the map is, it certainly isnt my idea of heaven, at least unreal tournament heaven anyway. I think the mapper wasnt really sure what he wanted as he was building this, because it seems kind of random. Needs work.
| Czm21x 04-01-2003 08:17 PM MST | Rating: 4 | | I don't see what's so great about this map. A building on a floating island with more floating islands, and the whole thing floating in some void or space. Looks like the author had a good idea in his mind, but couldn't execute the idea very well with the editor. Terrain around that building is too flat.
