Bastiaan Frank has a clear winner here. After extensive play-testing with my clan-mates and a few friends, we all seem to agree that this map kicks ass all around. Period.


Lighting is done to a turn, as well as the theming throughout the map.. and while some may say the textures are a little repetitive in some places, well, when you make a wall out of WOOD, it's going to look like WOOD. I've taken this minor beef into consideration, but frankly it's (very) minor. The skybox is also very very pretty, and one of the nicest ones I've seen since DM-Vertiginous][.


This place is bizarre .. check the screenies if you won't take my word for it. Bizarre but strangely beautiful. Loaded with eye-candy, everything seems to have some detail to it.. in some cases important details like realism. :-) The place seems very solid for all its other-worldly-ness, and the addition of the ambient sounds is a very welcome change from the normal run-of-the-mill mappage. The background music also very well suits the mood of the place, and if you run without music normally, you are definitely missing out.


Despite the huge architecture, you won't get that 'lost' feeling for very long.. the corridors are huge too. :-) Also despite the huge architecture, you won't suffer from frame drain -- Bastiaan has done an excellent job of keeping the nodes and polys low enough to be playable on the midrange systems, even in the large areas you see to the right.


Also for the careful delver, you can find several traps and tricks spaced around the place.. just the ticket for an interesting and well-paced deathmatch. This version replaces an earlier one where the bots were not killed when caught in the trap. Way to go, Bastiaan for fixing and uploading the changes! The trap is lovely.


I'd like to suggest adding a trap for the redeemer campers, to catch them if they stay there too long waiting for it, but that's just me. Rotten through and through. :-)


Rumor has it that this may be one of Bastiaan's last public efforts, and while it's not his most recent, it may well be one of the last he releases .. apparently someone likes his work enough to snatch him up to map for them. Congrats! But dammit, we're gonna miss talent like this. (Would-be-Mappers take note, and study hard.)


This map shows it too -- attention to detail; item placement is top notch; the bots can get to everything and even trigger the trap!


Get this puppy up on servers -- it was one of UTBooty's most downloaded maps for weeks, and it deserves no less from us. I recommend around 6 - 12 players, although it's do-able with 4; you'll just have to hunt a bit more cannily.

The map looks and runs great overall. I didn't think it was that big of a map, in fact, it could have been a little bit bigger. I'm not a big fan of these castile/corridor type maps, but I was impressed overall with this map. The only thing I wish this map had was some sort of surprise to it.. but thats just me.

This map doesn't compare to other Nali City maps which have scored this high. Textures are repetitive, and worse, everything is the same color, like an old Quake-II map

Nice layout but...texturing is UGLY! Lighting is OK. The basic architecture isn't too hot either.

Looks good but not enough weapons and a bit too spread out. 9.5 is way too high for this map. What's with the bird sounds? The elevators are too slow as well.

The lighting doesn't fit the map. If it was more dramatic, this map would be dreamy. As it is, my vote is a 7. Don't overrate your maps, Fuzzbuster

Beautiful texturing! I dont know what anybody here is talking about, the way orange lights were used with the wood is simply magnificant to look at. Plays well too, the redeemer isn't overly-corny on this map.

This map has absolutely no theme whatsoever... It's just a bunch of architectural experiments jumbled together and called a dm map. It's very amateurish compared to ther maps of this rating, and does absolutely nothing to help the UT mapping community from the hell of mediocraty. Bleh...sometimes I wonder what you NC guys are on..

This is definitely one of my all time favourites. As soon as I played it for the first time I knew this was something special and ever since I keep looking for a map of a similar kind. Now listen, all you tasteless people out there : There's NOTHING wrong with the textures, plus, architecture and layout is just fucking brilliant ! I LOOOVE this map !

I don't know, but I still believe that the socalled trap in the stairs is just a BSP hole in the map...

Did not like it so much, It's too wide and open. I liked the trap hallway!
