*) Info:
A 1.29 MB download for 10-14 players.
*) General:
This is a mine that got abandoned, but read the background story in the readme for details. :)
It lies at the bottom of a mountainrange at the coast. Winding, beautiful eye-candy inside sections connect various outside sections with one another.
It shows of skill, imagination, determination, and an excessive creative urge on the mappers behalf.
*) Worst:
There is nothing even remotely bad about this map. However: Some of the outside sections see polys go up into the high 200s, but I guess on today's average computer even that should not realy be much of an issue.
*) Bad:
Lighting is somewhat strange here and there. Nowhere too bright, or too dim, but how comes all of the green lamps emmit white light? Cones & subtle coronas here and there all nicely arranged. In some outside parts the lighting seems somehow washed-out, but the setting is night-time, and I am willing to take that as 'excuse'.
Another issue is the behaviour of the bots. This map is quite large, and for the most part they master it without any trouble. At a very few spots though, they got stuck even at masterful. Unfortunately one of these spots is an underwater pipe where the Invisibility lies: they always drown there, because they can't find their way out of the pipe again. The author put ambush points at wonderfully "campy" spots, however almost too many of them. At one point I spectated six bots, and they ended up at six different ambush points waiting for each other for eternity...
*) Good:
Flow is surprisingly good. At first the huge layout of this map is a bit confusing, but once you get a grip on that it flows very nicely indeed. Dangerous "dead-ends" for the powerful pickups like amp or shieldbelt, and some tunnels so narrow that no two can walk abreast might not be everyone's taste, though...
Another good aspect of this map is the sound. Music chosen is Colossus, which of all the tracks that came with UT is the one that fits this map best. (Though there was one or two in UNREAL that would have been worth importing, that would have suited this map even better.)
The ambient sounds are professionally executed, though left me wishing for a wee little more of them.
*) Best:
Theme is arguably as good as it gets! (I don't give 10s out of principle, see...) The atmosphere of this map is just incredible. Just the right amount of eyecandy, never getting stylish or too much. Some of the most beautiful lifts I ever saw.
Movable mining-carts are a fun to ride; weeeeee!!!!!
The last aspect I'd like to point out here is the texture work the author presents here. These are by far the greatest textured rocks I ever saw. And the inside, as well as the outside parts sure live up to that high standard as well.
*) Summary:
If you don't download this map right now you're either brain-dead, or one of them funny folks only playing Assault... (which is the same to me anyway :P )
I truly dare doubt you'll get that much fun out of a mere 1.29 MB download again any time soon.

| [--x--]LurkerBot | Rating: 4 | | i hope so chico. nc was doing so well for a while... :
| Mister_Prophet | Rating: 5 | | 8.5...your kidding me. I gave it a 5, for average, of all the maps on the hotlist...this one does NOT fit.
| ayJay | Rating: 6 | | It seems we have a difference of opinion again, Rabid. And it looks like I'm not the only one, either...
| Plat | Rating: 6 | | Rabid has to get into the reviewing groove still, give him time. I know I did some bad reviews at first, actually Im still doing some bad ones.
| Leto II | Rating: 7 | | those too high ratings fill thousands of harddisks with less good maps, but this map isn't that bad !
| Platinum[STS] | Rating: 5 | | ok i played the map now, my god its not near hotlist quality. Rabid, you should check out some of the more well known mapper's maps get get a feel for what maps are 7+'s (try ulukai, chicoverde, davidm, ..thats all i can think of right now)
| Brian 'Snowblader' Braeckel | | Thanks Rabid. And BTW everyone else.... it was only my second map ever, so cut me some slack, eh?
| Dai | Rating: 4 | | yeah, cut him some slack! (4)
| Halo14 | Rating: 4 | | ??? Wow this Rabid Wolf really sux's with these reviews. Stop giving average maps good scores, i can't believe some of the maps this one beat to the hotlist, it's really sad. But I'm giving this map a 4, and no i wont list why, it's not that good to debate about.
| CowGod | Rating: 3 | | Not saying anything bad about you (the author) we're saying it was in no way even close to an 8.5
| TheSpoonDog | Rating: 6 | | rabid you should NOT just check out maps by Ulukai, DavidM,... you should check out GOOD maps reviewed by an experienced reviewer. Maybe that's the problem... if its by a well known mapper it MUST be good right... right??? :P
| Dark Star | Rating: 4 | | Man what was the reviewer smoking when he tested this map...I dont know about anyone else, but I thought this map was way way way to big to be an effective DM among many other problems I ran into. I played one game and deleted...enough said!
| Peregrine|PuF | Rating: 9 | | Wow. Don't listen to these guys, Rabid. I LOVED this map, and I've only played the BetaVersion!!!! We played it at our "6 MAN LAN" this past Friday, and we LOVED IT!!! Gorgeous water effects, I love that cliff that reminded me of Unreal 1. The outside parts are beautifull!!! We played it for more than an hour! Good Work Snowblader!
| minionofdestruction 06-14-2003 12:36 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | This map is really cool the first time you play it, then it rather quickly loses it's "oooo" and "aaah" factor. Still fun to play, but boring after too much play.
| DarkGriffin 06-15-2003 03:46 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Nice job! I love how large and free it is. The freefall jump into the water is my fave :). The only things I see wrong is that the lighting is way too bright for a night map and the textures get a bit bland after a bit. Good job with it all though!
| AlphaDMF 06-15-2003 12:50 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Very Impressive map here. I like the various mover combinations in this level, not to mention the terrain and brush use....Brill map, and keep up the good work!
| (NRA)_Noodle 07-13-2003 10:27 AM MDT | Rating: 10 | | This is the best map I have ever played. All of my clan (we only just started on internet, used to play LAN) think it is the best map ever. The whole of the level is brilliant and esspecially the sniping spots and the moving carts.
