The first thing you'll notice when you play this level is the vast size of the level. The game takes place in one long room. But that's not a bad point; in fact it works very well. The level consists of the two bases, joined together by a long Zero-G section. This is about the first CTF level I've seen where the Zero-G attribute of the level is integral to the gameplay. The bases themselves have normal gravity. This can be a pain as sometimes I've floated in high in the air, only to be yanked down as you cross the zone barrier. But on the other hand, the variable gravity has been very well worked into this level. This level is very well balanced, despite it's asymmetric nature. There are two redeemers in a centrally located room. It's no easy task to get to without some judicious translocator use.
The bots play extremely well, given the level's nature. Sometimes they get a tad lost through the middle section, but the soon find their way. As the game takes place in one long corridor, sniping is essential. In a nutshell, snipe, or be sniped. Even whilst escaping through the Zero-G section, it's commonplace to be sniped down. The skybox is simply a work of art. It has to be he best skybox I've seen in a space level. If you look out into space, you can see an asteroid based mining base. There's even mining droids going about their work, taking turns to dock at the base. I just had to use the "ghost" cheat and go and take a closer look. The architecture in this level is very simplistic on the whole, but this can be forgiven, as this level isn't the fastest of levels. Item placement is near perfect, although the bots don't go for the redeemers.
In conclusion, this is a must-download for all UT players who enjoy space/sci-fi orientated level. The excellently executed Zero-G section makes this level stand far and apart from most other user-made space/sci-fi levels. Even though CTF-Asteroidbase is heavily sniper orientated, this level delivers a thoroughly entertaining CTF experience. |

| Tekmet | Rating: 8.5 | | This map created some challenging situations and was fairly innovative. I was pleased with the z-axis work offered and the "bouncy" bottom of the asteroid base. The hidden rooms and item placement made for some hectic moments and a lot of frags. Well done and quite unique.

I really can't say I like the game play. However, technicaly speaking this map is awesome the review is right on with the kick arse sky box. I think I spent a whole game just bouncing up and down watching the mining robots do thier thang on those asteroids. Excellent theme and feel to it just is not my kind of map.

If you don't like it, you can delete it, but you HAVE to see this map if you haven't yet. It is an older map but, I think, a classic. Download it and backup the zip file before it goes bye bye like so many other good maps have done. (file not found) Not much to add to the other revews so I will just add some facts not mentioned yet. This map has ALL the UT weapons including the Super Shock rifle. The bots DO go for the redeemors. I don't know willingly or by accident but when I first got this map 2 years ago, I didn't even know the redeemers was there till a bot splatered me with one. And even then, I had to use the ghost cheat to find out where the hell he got it from. The minigun and the ripper are only found in the blue teams responarea and the blue team also has 2 sniper rifles and 2 sniping posts. The red teem, on the other hand, only has 1 sniper rifle and 1 sniping post and an ASMD in there responarea and the ASMD can be found in the low grav section of the map. But, just outside the red base and to the right is a ramp that will go down to a lift that takes you to a room with the shild belt AND the super shock rifle in it. Balance? You make the call. Still this is a great little map. No UT map collection is complet without it. You will bust some moves on this map that you didn't even know you had. ;) I have never seen another map like it, before or after so I give it a 9.
