The author submitted this map thinking he had finally created one good enough to share. While I’ve seen far worse maps, I must say that this one is still substantially under par.
The screenshot shows the most complex part of the map, with the rest of the place waning to simplicity. Although the author spiced things up by slanting hallways, making some spiral stairs, and getting somewhat creative with geometry, the eye candy is lacking to say the least. However, the bots worked rather well, and the polys are low, so that’s a plus.
I found myself running down a lot of hallways and trying to locate elusive z-axis play, which are two things I dislike. I loaded this 4-8-player map with 8 in hopes that I’d stay very busy, but the action was mediocre. Other issues involved lifts, no sound or music, lighting without light sources, health and ammo bunched up just a little too much.
Having said all that, some thought and effort did go into the map, and I know it’s difficult to produce a winner while you’re relatively new to the editor. There is some water and some plants, the nuke takes some time to reach, so it’s not a total loss. If you get into hunting more than extreme firefights, and you need a low ploy map to play, this one may be worth the download. |

Even though common textures are used throughout, the combination is very effective and orginal in the way they were put together. The "sniper spots", or the cutouts in the decks are a very nice touch and pretty cool. This map would be very good for a team/internet map. Well done!
| Mxtrmntr 12-02-2002 08:51 AM MST | Rating: 3 | | this map's gameplay is flawed, the graphics are bad, the theme isn't really recognisable despite some of the usual church/cathedral-ish stuff. empty rooms, very basic architecture, messy item placement...all in all, a rather weak map. still, at least it isn't one of the usual 2-or-3 room maps that are often made by people who are rather new to ued.
