Well, this is my first map review, hopefully I will get better as I do more and not ramble on as much... ;-D

AWE: 2
Textures could have been better here, most from the DecayedS package, but Hourences does a great job of getting them aligned and used in the right places; nothing redundant. Only other texturing problem I found was that the rain is falling upside-down.

Lighting is done perfectly, didnt see any greening (I wouldnt expect to find that in Hourences map anyways ;-) Lighting from the rainy sky has the water ripples shown, and the lightning flashes have great effect, lighting up everyplace that has a window. No unreasonable sized, or odd placed lights. Small lights to add enough illumination to dark areas such as doorways between rooms. All with coronas to match accordingly.

Architecture isnt bad, nothing spectacular. The best architecture is the short hallways, probably nothing to build for Hourences, but they look great to me. There are ceiling rafters that are good, as with the windows, light fixtures, and vents, but other than that, there are just boxes to hide behind in no-mans land. Overall the architecture suits the maps purpose.

BUILD: 2.5
Lots of special events to get the thunder and lightning effect, and I didnt find anything wrong with them. Ambient sounds are all done well, mechanical hums, steam from broken pipes, constent rainfall, none are too loud or quiet that they can or cant be over others. One sound that was placed with a flickering light didnt fit, but Im not going to knock the score just for one sound you barely notice, when everything else is done fine.

Location IDs were overly general, just "Red base," "Central room," and "Blue base." Theres one mover for each base, a broken down door that hardly moves when touched, which adds to the abandoned facility theme. No BSP or HOM effects found either.

CAST: 2.5
Gameplay is great, the bots use all the routes, even when returning the flag they will use all routes, and not the same path every time. Although the bots do seem to have some trouble translocating up to the bridge in the center room. Flow is great, nothing leads you out of the way or to a longer journey to your flag capturing needs. There arent many places for defense points, but the author did leave enough space in the flag room for a couple, and they work fine. Even then, youre not going to find it easy to escape with the enemy flag without opposition.

With a 5 on 5 match, the map may be a weapon or two shy for each player to get one upon spawning, but it wont take long to find one over a dead body. It would help to have at least an extra health pack per base, as there is health equivalent to two health packs on each side already, and again with 5 on a team it becomes scarce. The invisibility is well hidden, but so much that its more of a pain to get during gameplay, but I will let you find where it is.

SCORE: 7
Overall its a solid map that fits the designers intentions. A few flaws here and there, but no ones perfect. Maybe not Hourences best effort, but that certainly doesnt mean that its not a good map for your rotation. Download it and give it a try, I know you dont have anything better to do if youre already reading this. :-)

Visuals are pretty good, but gameplay is crappy as hell.

he has far better maps now but then it isn't no Box_Arena ;)

gameplay could have been more exciting than one big hallway with a walkway over it

I dunno. With all the fresh maps out there your new reviewer chooses this? Reviews are precious, especially on the new Nali City site which is (to my thinking, anyhow) the best the UT community has. So give the new mappers a chance (if a new map sucks try another one worthy of review).

As I recall this was not a bad map, and since I have to give it a score just to speak my piece...I recall it was a 6.

Needed a map to review? You're a reviewer man!
Use your imagination.

Pretty decent. I like its decaying feel, and the pouring hole in the ceiling which reminds me of DM-Hydrophobia. My base also faced a bot onslaught a whole ten seconds faster than I'd expected. :)
