| Nahand 09-23-2003 08:46 AM MDT | Rating: 4 | | FYI i have UT GOTYE and RtNP, UNREAL-universe speaking. Being so, i immediatly recognize this map name and sure enough i downloaded it.
DM-DayBreak was one of the few DM maps that came with Return to NaPali Mission Pack, and one i played a lot.
The convertion of this castle-themed map (more or less castle, that is), is great. As far as i remember it, the map is pretty much the same here, with the lower watered area, the Z-axis of the upper platforms, and the weapons (now, the UT versions).
The map is going to be downed a bit by anyone who downloaded it i'm afraid... today standarts say it's too tight and looks old...
I do enjoy it, and my score is given having in mind what people today play, and NOT my PERSONAL view. As with any "special" map someone plays in a game, and later in his/her gaming life reencounters, it has a special taste to me, as any DOOM map recreated in UT would appeal to DOOM lovers and no appeal at all to anyone that NEVER played DOOM.
Being so, it is NOT an outstanding map (now or then), but i still like it... one of those "things" you just know...
******************************************************* UPDATE: an important thing i forgot to mention about this convertion is the BOT play. Don't know why but they just stand there doing almost nothing. BOT path is there, but motivation seems not to. It is NOT a destructive detail, as if you play this map with 6-8 player number things should be fine. The issue is: BOTs play only if they see other bot or player, and since this is a thigt close quarters map, with lower players numbers that can render gameplay useless. As a tight map it is, you can't also put a great number of players (8 is already some, i DON'T recommned more). So, gameplay, in the end, can suffer a little. It's all about balance in player count/map size.
I decided to delete this map ONLY because i placed the original RtNP map in UT and it plays better (BOT-wise), PLUS it has the RtNP weapons (only true because i have downloaded a mini-mod able to do it).
Thats it! Thank you.
