This is the third map I've played from the same author and the 2nd time I've played a newer version of the same map. Anyone who has played DM-Morbias will feel right at home in CorpseGrinder, it is your basic arena map. All balls, no glory. It isn't meant to be pretty or unique, it just was made for fragging. I spawned in here and instantly saw crude architecture and bleak structure. It's basic, it's dry, and has no personality, and thats fine for this sort of map.

The map is fast paced just like Morbias, and actually looks just like it's predecessor. No originality points there, but most arena maps in the last two years have sucked horribly. This map is as close to a Morbias 3 as the community is gonna get for UT. The gameplay is nothing new, we've all seen it, but unlike all these new age maps that try so hard to be beautiful and end up with retard flow and gameplay that revolves around staring at cute bricks and loose tiles, this map appeals to baser instincts and is just all killing. A few things should be noted about the gameplay, there are teleporters that take you to a lower level room where you see bodies drop in from the map's only trap (Imagine that DM-Morbias and DM-Fractal, despite warnings from their parents and friends, got together and had a baby, thats pretty much what this map is) and inside are a few health packs, some armor, and jump boots. I didn't find the boots very useful, they didn't quite reach the upper ring when I used them, I think they are intended to dodge enemy fire more than anything. I didn't see them as being very useful though, the map would do better without them, and that entire lower room. I one time grabbed the Redeemer and was about to blast the two idiot bots in the map when I ran backwards into a teleporter and fired a semi-megaton nuclear rocket into the wall 3 feet from my face. That can be quite annoying (and messy), the teleporters should be placed somwhere less dangerous in the map, maybe in a seperate alcove near the lifts. That lower room is just too small for someone who just grabs the Redeemer and plans to use the tele to make a quick run to the upper ring. If the author makes a new version (Which is unlikely considering this map is the special edition of the redux version 11, the sequel) than that room needs to go.

The Prophet's Verdict: I give this map a 4, a slightly under-average score. The looks are shallow, ugly, boring, and unimpressive. But unlike alot of the maps I've played that are gorgeous, this one plays better and is more fun. If this map managed to pull off better looks with the same gameplay (minus the teleporters) I would have rated it average or higher. I haven't enjoyed a Arena map like this since I played Morbias back when Unreal was out. Plus, the music track is rather funny, if I had reviewed this map a year ago I would bitch that it was out of theme, but the map isn't meant to be taken seriously as a theme anyway, so I won't push it.

Not your daddy's deathmatch map. The Corpse Grinder Arena is not for the squeamish. Very fast and better than the orginal. Comes with the standard gimmicks and visual effects of Grimm Brother Productions maps. Check it out! ( and read the readme for the easter eggs and secrets of the level

edit: re: jumpboots in the level. The jumpboots sole purpose in the map is to be able to jump to the partially hidden *teleporter in the alcove of the second tier of the plasma gun wing. Not everyone plays with the translocator. So... If you can use the jumpboots in combat in some fashion, all the power to you.

*teleporter, this one leads to a players lounge with a living room, bathroom, office, in the lounge you can change the music up to three tracks by wandering around and triggering them. Also, there are two fullscreen monitors that grants a sky cam view of the arena itself and of course, the body grinder, a button on the ceiling opens the corpsegrinder and you can watch the bodies fall in and be ground to bits from the safety of the lounge :) this is another one of those maps that if you console command 'addbots X' and summon, say 100 bots, the map becomes one brilliantly lit nonstop scene of armageddon. The grinder practically is triggered nonstop and the continuous stream of body parts, blood and gibs into the trap is disturbing :)

Reasonable map.
its been some time since i last played it, but it had a nice look about it, and a nice, viceral trap.

the scaling can be weird in places, and some of the archetecture needs work as i recall, but it shows some promise.

as yet un-realised promise, but there is hope. ;)

Not a classic, but worth a look. pound for pound probably better than uberdome, at least potentially.
