DM-Cathedral][ (not to mistaken for the lackluster DM-Cathedral2) is a great 1 on 1 DM map.



A 1 on 1 DM? Yes, they're a rarity, and usually they're pretty good. Cathedral][ is without exception. The author seems to have gone to great lengths to use the ShaneChurch texture set very effectively. Needless to say, texturing is excellent. Add to that plenty of curved archways & domed ceilings and you have quite a feast for your visual enjoyment.



This map is rather big considereing it is only a 1 on 1, or at least that's just my opinion. When compared to other 1 on 1's, it's probably right on. I played with 1 bot and found it kind of boring. After adding 3 more, things spiced up a bit more and it felt just about right. There are plenty of weapons to go around and I'm sure everything would work equally well online as a 1 on 1 or maybe 3 player DM.



After playing for a while, I noticed something curious though, my opponent, my only opponent, didn't seem to get around much. And I also noticed that he left much of the weapons pretty much for me. Oh how nice of him, right? Nope. The reason my oppoenent only stayed in one spot and didn't grab any items wasn't because of his demeanor, it's a clear sign of no botpathing. Some larger levels can get away with no botpathing, but not this one. I mean, isn't that the whole purpose of the map anyway in a 1 on 1? It should be simple enough just to toss some pathnodes in there. The map isn't terribly complex either, so I doubt the bot would have a hard time getting around.



Now if this lack of botpathing wasn't intentional, I can just bet the author will be letting out the world's biggest "DOH!" right about now. The only other downfall of this map is lack of ambient sounds (yep, to get a higher sound score you have to add more than music).



Darnit, you had just about everything else right, this one could have been perfect. I encourage the author to do a some quick fixes, playtest, and then submit this map again.



Update:

The author has submitted a newer version of this map with botpathing totally fixed. Now this map plays beautifully! It's a great 1 on 1 now. Almost a 10.

Sorry, seriously overrated. A most simplistic map design, no z-axis play whatsoever, and the "totally fixed" bots just love to jump right into your combos.

When is download a few maps then i always get a problem : Well ik i put my botts on Masterful, but they don't play on masterful and when i go back to the menu there's Experienced of something els, Somebody help?

First thing is that there are only 2 player starts!!!! and when you start you get telefragged!!, thats bad- 1 on 1 maps should have more then 2 player starts.
Now to the rest of the map: The map is pretty ok, Great lighting and texturing, and basic Architecture. Bots play ok, nothing special about them. I think that the health in the level is not spreaded well around It (4 out of 5 boxes are in the same place).
Basically an ok map, Cast needs some work.

P.S. Elfanoro you might have the "Auto adjust skill" On

I agree with Razor, 2 playerstarts just aren't cutting it. The map may look good, but the gameplay value isn't that great. And whats with that stair that connects the PulseGun room with the Minigun room?I mean, it just doesn't look natural...For the best 1on1 map try Tonnberry's -Alpu- or Paranoid's Tregeagle!

Best map 1on1????, Nope! Too linear to normal. Some stairs, only square rooms and,I think, all map is one square.
