I can't tell wether to laugh or die...
Created by the prolific NC-Reviewer QUATHWAR, DM-Burn, or rather as he would have it, "DM-Joke" was created as a typical generic industial maps. What's sad is this map typifies not the usual quality map reviewed here at Nali City, instead is better than most maps. Now I ain't handing out any rewards, but if grading on a curve this map gets a C+. If it wasn't for the limited headroom and stupidly small corridors this map perhaps would be grade B material. Describing the map takes effort, from Crypt to UTech this map has something for everyone. The gay lighting is mostly sourced well, and even with a few custom textures, alignment is spot on yet transistions have places that suck. Architecture is varied as is the sound effects. Item placement will hold large player loads even if the map is crowded with the recommended minimum of 6. The only thing that really rises to the occassion is the Flak Cannon, winning becomes a matter of getting the drop on the bots by sticking to the hallways. What exceedingly annoyed me was the shear uselessness of the Sniper Rifle, for sure a Redeemer would have been a better instrument of suicide in this small map. This map is equally tight in the z-axis department. Yes ramps and two tiered catwalks is alot for most maps, and this map makes good use of this tried and tested forumla throughout. Final impressions? Well, I like a map with a theme, and name that matches. After playing this map several times and taking a few screenshots, I felt the burn. No, it wasn't from the watery lava either. From the chainlink floors to the spastic texturing I can thouroughly say I don't like this map. So pull up a crate and enjoy the skybox, just don't look at the water and mountains at the same time... |

| Jez 01-24-2004 06:43 PM MST | Rating: 5 | | Moonrakeron, my favourite types of map are industrial ones too. But not in this case. There isn't much flow, and I don't like to see furniture even if it is indestructible and bolted to the floor. Look at DM-Magma, that's a keeper, this one isn't.
