CTF-3towers is what CTF-Face would be if it was plucked out of the maturation cocoon before it was ripe. The map is more or less a Face clone and one that doesn’t do anything to outshine the original or give you an excuse to play this over Face (or a better Face Styled map).
Basically, you spawn in a familiar spot on a floating asteroid with the ever-popular rotating space background around you. Isn’t it sad that after 5 years of mapping for this game, nobody has thought of anything more for the rotating skybox than a space setting with a giant planet looming over you? You have the two towers facing each other from opposite sides of the formation with a central structure in between (with, get this, a health kegger). The buildings aren’t as advanced as the Face towers, but teleporters will take you to the highest sniper locations and items are scattered over ledges so you have to take risks to nab them. Construction isn’t very advanced, not bad but pales in comparison to 1999’s Epic standards.
Gameplay was abit of a snooze. Don’t even bother playing with bots because they play like they should be wearing helmets. Oh yeah, they’ll go from base to base but it takes them 20 years. I beat 8 games by running in a straight line from one base to the other with my Rocket launcher. By the way, the Launcher is the only weapon you’ll need in here because entry and exit ways are too thin and bots tend to walk right into tight spots. Forget about dodging man, they’ll run up to the approaching projectile and let it pelt them in the face before they realize it is bad. I saw the bots go to the upper levels but never got sniped. With human players the game heats up a lot, but still limited in strategy. There just isn’t a lot to do, going sniper isn’t as well coordinated as in Face and the layout is just too basic.
The Prophet’s Verdict: An attempt to provide something similar to CTF-Face but falls short.
