DM-Ariza, by the famed Mysha, carries the burden of being one of the most fun Unreal maps, but it doesn't stop there! Ariza][, infused with the enhanced AI scripting of Unreal Tournament turns it into a gloriously fun deathmatch! Sounds of gently splashing waves and the wind rushing by suck you into the environment, while the music does nothing to distract you from it.
Basically the same as the original, but with nearly all new UT textures and lighting that is excellent to say the least. There are several additions (or subtractions on a technical term) such as another path cutting into the side of the mountain at the bottom that still leads to the ASMD, and where the super health used to be is now the udamage, right beneath the intake of the fan, which I still haven't seen the bots go to. Up top where there used to be only one real sniping area to pick off the unweary way below, now has a couple more places similar to it, but not identical. Also, there are several other little deviating paths that stay within the entire theme of Ariza with fairly simple geometry, which is needed in the wide open areas to keep frame rates up. If I were to pick apart the texturing, I would have to say that the blinking light textures in the ground path to the lift should have been custom scaled to fit properly, as there are lights that are cut off and it just doesn't look right. Also, there seem to be a few textures that keep the "low shadow detail", while other surfaces added and adjacent to it seem to be on the default "norm". This makes the texture shading look weird and unnatural, but not an eyesore. Otherwise, the lighting is crisp and superb, even better than the first Ariza for the most part, in my opinion.
Item placement was changed around a little. The rocket launcher, the ASMD, and ripper are in the same area. The minigun is placed beneath the lift, and instead of where it used to be is now the flak cannon, and a biorifle can be found not too far off. Of course, at the top you can find a sniper rifle, and not too far off from there is a plasma rifle.
Now, the juicy part. Fun. Yup. It's in here. Every-damn-where. From the bots that chase you off ledges to the lift where you can't sneak up on them and pop their heads off in a heart beat anymore. Z-axis fragging all over the place, which has been taken up a notch with the additions to the whole structure and enhanced AI. A number of times I was able to combo a bot diving down at me. My favorite way to frag! Camping is not a safe choice unless you're good at picking off players that look like ants out of zoom mode with the rifle in order to watch you three and nine, or just your ass in general. Bots will find you and harm you, sometimes forcing you to dive into the water to prolong your life...unless, of course, you miscalculate and you force yourself into a dirtnap by plunging from several stories up down into the ground.

The textures are the UT equaliviant and the lighting has been redone to look a little darker on the ground level. Bots do play much better that the original since they no longer get hungup on the lift;)

I only take 0.125 off of a perfect 10 score, and that's because the only real place to get in some good sniping is so high up that you need to zoom in; do this and you won't see the bots coming to murder you at point blank range. Great mod! Great map! It will occupy space on my drive til i quit playing UT! (I don't anticipate THAT happening anytime soon!)

Also the textures in UT are far nicer running at twice the size or more 256 instead of 128 ... As to ariza having poor flow ???????????? The Review was spot on pointing out the things I did get wrong like the scalling of the textures in the hall to the lift etc. P.S I am the original author X-Terminator[VoRTeX] also 13000 downloads here and file planet cant be wrong :)

| Marid | Rating: 7 | | A fun map. Not one of my favorites though. There are some texture alignment problems such as the blinking blue lights near the lift. The water speed really bothers me. Why is the water flowing so fast?
