"Wow, the first decent map I've reviewed today..."
DM-Aphas is unexpectedly good. The author has taken a Deck16-esque approach to map design and create a very playable level. Bots seem to know their way around, and the level flow is actually pretty good.
There are a few rough spots which I feel the author should know about though. For starters, the lighting. Much of the map is composed of bland lighting complementing questionable texture choice. There are only 3 areas that show promise; the upper tier showing the skybox, the "green reactor" room, and the main hall. But more often there are "light" textures which do not give the look of emitting light, or lights are added in areas with no visible source. If the rest of the lighting would have been done with more attention to detail, I suspect it would score much higher.
Architecture is genrally good, but there is one spot which I felt should be reworked to make the level flow better. The ramps behind the first sniping area in the main hall should be redone, the floors don't line up and it just doesn't look right. With more appropriate lighting, the architecture would most likely look much better.
After playing through for a while though, I thought to myself, "Wow, the first decent map I've reviewed today...". Bots worked, item placement was not overloaded, sniping positions seemed to have been thought out, and as a bonus it uses a custom music track. A very nice touch.
In the end, you have a nice little DM which is comfortable for about 8 players.
