Call the movers!

Jim Batt's "Apartment Block For Lease" is a mutha of a download (11+ megs) Laggy as 3 toed sloth, Choppy like a ginsu salesman, and fun. Well once you get used to it anyway. Realism mods will have a field day.

The map is as the title suggests, an apartment block. 24 shiney new two bedroom apartments stocked with your favorite UT accoutrements. The doors have been widened for playability, but no elevator means players in wheelchairs stick to the parking level and scavange any weapons that might fall from above. Two stair wells give verticle access and hold some Enforcer ammo and behind the ground floor landing door, Armor. Atop one stair well roof is the Redeemer, a siren sounds when picked up and nasty invisible walls and no open spaces make this weapon equally deadly to the operator as their intended victim. The Kitchens hold other ammo, the bathrooms Heath Vials, and bedrooms and balconies other weapons. Though a few bedrooms had Thigh Pads to help climbing through the windows.

Fun: After spending 14 years apartments, blasting away was a good release. Minus on climbing stairs, can only think moving furniture will be a real pain.

Playability: Really bad. The 366 movers cause serious chokes and even though poly count could have been reduced, it would have made the map more difficult to make.

Bots: They spend time washing their artillery in the kitchen sinks, looking for copies of Reader's Digest in the toilets, and looking out bedroom windows. A few Bots will travel about until a sticky item starts them running in place. They don't use the translocator and should be considered bad neighbors.

Flow: Apartments, no less apartment buildings, aren't know for their connectivity. The same holds true here. Jumping out a window or leaping off a balcony are the only cures.

Items: The Redeemer and then the Rocket Launchers in the top opposing corner apartments will be the first to put to memory. Where you spawn will determine what you get otherwise.

Theme: Yea, yea, yea. I didn't care for the floorplan, but I didn't hire the architect.

Architecture: Solid, believable, Baths and Toilets should be on exterior walls. No baseboards, no wall plugs, light switches or closets. This place will be a slum in no time. Especially since every piece of glass is breakable!

Lighting: Cool shoot out interior lights and fuse panels. No gayness. Perhaps triggering a few red strobes for the Redeemer alarm next time eh? FIRE!

Textures: Custom set, the fuse box has an animated flashing red light series, and the screenshot is a two pic slideshow with an circled ad from the classified (read it!)and a beauty shot like the top pic to the right -->

Sound: A custom music track with triggerable segments plus a sound file for the air raid siren. Multiple Special Event actors spread around would have helped intensify the alarm.

In closing, there's so much to blow up and the game of hide-n-seek wears on thin that it made me wish the entire building was breakable. I've lived in places you could put your fist through a wall, just think what a redeemer would do...
Alot of effort and skill went into making this level, unfortunatly it's not very good for deathmatch and even worse for lower spec parties. There's 22 player starts, hold it down to 8 rowdy friends and tear it up. Of course the download size alone will prevent it from being a block buster. A novelty map, the ATF would love.

This map is a snipers dream... but lags a lot... To much danger using the redeemer, Hallways are too narrow, bots in team deathmatch stop in the middle of them trapping you there... You have to shoot over their heads to get them to move... Excellent to use with sniper arena and jump match, Since there are no elevators, jumping would be the quickest way on and off of the balconies, and stairwells... The ability to shoot the glass was a very nice touch, just wish more maps like these had that ability... All in all it was a pretty awesome map, as long as it doesn't get too overcrowded, say more than 10 bots... But to sum it all up, it was very nicely done! But it would still be an apartment that I would not rent... lol!!

WhooHoo!!! Who hasn't thought about a total destroyable map? Well this guy ,ade every thing destroyable except the walls!!! It's even possible to take ou the lights!!! And when the lights are out the music takes over your mind and you start freakin out, not knowing where the enemy lurks. The andaction gameplay is here, but much creepier.

It is a total bust on your system. And actually taking out the lights takes ages.
