I get goosebumps every time I boot up an Oz level for the first time, knowing that it's going to be something special. DM-Anubis is no exception to that rule. The most noticeable thing Mark does with his levels is lay them out well. Really well. Excellent use of stairways, multiple z-axis areas in a single main area, terrific item placement and great bot work make DM-Anubis every bit as good as anything you'll see on the retail UT CD.

Mark mentions that he got carried away with the Egyptian textures, but I beg to differ. It all works well to give you the feeling that you're in a big Egyptian temple, and have somehow angered the gods. 8-16 players will fill DM-Anubis up nicely, and you'll not be bored with it anytime soon. Really enjoyable map to play, poly counts are fine, gameplay speed is moderate and it looks sharp too due to Mark's attention to the architecture. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying themselves with this level.

All I have to say is this. I hate portals, the UT engine doesn't run them right. This map has portals, but otherwise it's okay. Epic quality map it is, but then again, that's not necessarily a good thing.

Akuma Rating: 5
:P Ok layout, a mix of good and fugly architecture and just plain bad portals. Textures and lighting are quite crude. Not the horror some people have made it out to be, but it sure ain't leet.

David 'DAVIDM' Münnich Rating: 4
ugly, overscaled, portals, layout everything bad

Luquado Rating: 6
Can of worms! Can of worms! It's opened! :p Seriously, though, this map didn't do it for me. Oh well. Maybe it's just cause we've moved so far from when this was reviewed...

Ulukai Rating: 5.5
Good atmosphere, it doesn't flow *too* badly once you get used to it, but the rest isn't too hot. I would speculate it seems fresh and good to a lot of people because there aren't that many egyptian maps about.

Paullywad Rating: 8.5
Other than the portals this map is soooo good. Weapons, health, bot play, ammo; every other aspect of this map rocks!

Kain Rating: 5
really, this map isn't as good as anyone makes it out to be

Metago Rating: 6
Boring and ooglay to my eyes

Dave 'ARITH' Lesko Rating: 5
one of the most overrated maps in existance. The item placement here is horrendous and ruins the map

Sen045 Rating: 5.5
Ouch

khwang Rating: 9
Anubis is one of the few maps that have stayed in my map rotation list since I first discovered Nali City. Not flawless, but extremely fun to play.

Ramdole Kang Rating: 8.5
This one is an oldie, but definitely a goodie. It has been one of my favorite maps since Nali City first reviewed it. Aside from the portal problems (yuk) and the fact the bots don't use the crusher button, this map is perfect.

Skunk Rating: 9
This map has flow and architecture just right. It's hard to make an Egyptian level (I think), but when it's right, you're sure to have a hell of an atmosphere. I still play this map, because it's just plain fun OZ rules !! Anubis][ please !!!

Ryan Smith Rating: 5
They overated.

Jarrad Rating: 9.5
ohhhh bloody great map mate....!!!!

duncast Rating: 10
Id have to say, this map is SUPURB! beutiful! stunning!, who cares about the bloody portals, this map is TOP NOTCH!

HypErioN Rating: 6
Why does all retardlings have to be here? Cant you make them leave? Please? Anyone??? No, wait... i'ts a mistake... Put the spoon down!... Put the spoon down!!! Noooo! I... *splat*

SirFraggedalot Rating: 7
Maybe could've been considered a 9 when reviewed, but that was then. We shouldn't be comparing it with maps that are newer. Still fun though, and the weapon placement isn't that bad. Portals? No problems for me, except for a bot getting stuck once in a blue moon

Deathwing Rating: 9
For the age of this map, it is the shit!

SyphoN Rating: 5
This rating probably isn't the most accurate. Try as I might I just couldn't get into this map. I seem to have this problem with Oz maps tho. His style doesn't jive with me I guess. The only Oz Brand(tm) maps I ever went apeshit over was Lohmann's Lair and Observatory for Unreal1. Those maps were cool as hell. Say what you want, but I don't consider this map worth the download. The bots are fine, but the stairs seem to cause snagging, the portals are average, and the architecture isn't that impressive in my opinion. Seems too squarish. Go download AggressiveTendenciesII or ObservatoryII. Your time will be better spent.

BarfLung Rating: 9.5
I STILL PLAY! I STILL LIKE! Maybe you dudes should get some friends instead of AI??? Anyhow, did anyone actually notice the hidden jumpboots next to the teleporter at the end of the slime in a small place? Look in UnrealEd... P.S. Crusher button?

Lophead Rating: 5.5
This was one of the first user maps made for UT when texture sets hadnt been around long enough to become redundant. Yeah, it was a half decent map and so we got a little excited, but compared to the current standard i think it just passes.

Ivan_Yavanoh Rating: 9
Interesting stuff here! I really liked it. t reminded me of 007 on N64, you know aztech and egyptian. I found it fun especially for network play. Lots of bots added will make use of z-axis fighting. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR NETWORK PLAY!

Sol M Kag Jr. Rating: 8.5
It didn't seem cool at first, but when I played it against my mates (all human, btw) it really kicked ass, especially the square (well, technically it's not square but... you know what I mean). I don't like the cellars though, personally I much more prefer the top part. And one last thing, whoever gets invisibility in this one is the KING. Good work, the square itself is one of my most favourite places in UT for DM !

Alex 'Blex' Bowen Rating: 9.5
Whenever I'm looking for good ol' fashioned deathmatch fun, this is the map I pull out.

Safearus Rating: 2
This map is good if you like egyptian shit... but i still think it sux

4NK8R Rating: 9.5
I agree with some of you guys, but WTF? I though games were supposed to be about playability, not ART CRITIQUE!!!!! i actually passed on a BLOWJOB to continue playing this map... It's one i still play now, although i believe i won't pass up the BJ next time! who cares about the crappy portals! i was too busy killing!!!!! so should you!!!!

Geddy Lee Rating: 10
Personally, this is my favorite UT map of all time...I study Egyptology and you can tell that OZ really did his homework on this. The architecture and layout really gives a great Egyptian feel to it. If this isn't your favorite DM map, atleast say that its the best map based off of an Egyptian theme.... :-)

Starkling Rating: 8
I loved this map. The desert temple environment felt almost real! There were some discrepancies in the textures though, and the bug the author mentions in the readme file is pretty freaky.

Leto II Rating: 8
Fun map to play, but not awesome. And bots get stuck in the not working teleport (or whatever it is supposed to be)

slippysock Rating: 9
This map has stayed on my top ten list since finding it months ago. Shame about the portals making it impossible to shoot at point blank range ! And the bots disappear right up close !

This map looks great with very rich texture work, but it has gameplay problems. The bots don't take the steep stairs too well. The sniper rifle is in a totally useless location and the slime pool was a very bad idea, nobody likes slime. The arena with the flak is a good frag spot.

This map is pretty cool. I like pretty much all of Oz's maps, but this one is so cool!

I basically plays smooth, and the one thing I found that makes good maps good is that the map is interconnected. Wherever you go, you will eventually end up in the large central area, which I like, because it makes combat more fun, being all centralized and fast paced.

The bot paths is pretty good, but they never really make full use of the crush trap, neither dying in it, nor going for the button to activate it.

The Egyptian theme is interesting, as it fascinates pretty much all of us. The map plays on that, creating a nice, Stargate SG1-style temple, mixing futuristic elements and old Egyptian ones(Ancient Egyptians never had glass, for one).

The strangest thing about the map though is that teleporter that doesn't exist. You can move through it freely, you can shoot through it, and you can see through it, making it a strange thingie.

Overall, great map, but not perfect.

Great job Oz.

this map is one of my favorates. It has a nice 'control zone'. By that i mean that whoever controls a particular area in the map will be the daddy for at least the next five frags or so. In this case there's a flak cannon, armour and thigh pads all in one room with a minigun nearby. So it makes for fun combat, defending your territory. which is cool for a DM map, and not many maps have layouts which encourage this kinda thing.

This map ain't perfect though. It's annoying to fall into the slime and not be able to get back out. And the zones screw up the bots.

Other than that this is Grade-A, Fantastic, Stay On your hard drive forever, map:)

Every map is made for shooting people, fools.

The map was ok back then, but nothing overly excellant, and often overated.

And graphics matter. If they didn't, then new games wouldn't be made and bought - simple.

Don't be so rough. This map is great. It's on my harddrive for 2 years and still I think it's great. So the warpzones are a bit odd, almost every map has its odds. I also just LUV the theme.

HEEJ Nahand couldn't find the maps ya suggested thanks anyway

FYI, i had this map for a LONG time in my hardrive, though not installed. The day i post this comment i played it and DELETED it. For a while was a good map, Egyptian-theme-wise, but better things are around... and disk space is precious.

2 pieces of advice for anyone that like EGYPTIAN-themed maps:

DM-Khéops
DM-Thoth

... both at NaliCity ;)

UPDATE:

Ok... i made a mistake. DM-Khéops REALLY does exist. I checked it and it's NOT at Nalicity so i problably got it from elsewhere. The Zip file contained ONLY the map, so i cannot see from where i got it. My guess is either Unreal Playground or some personal hosted site at PU. Check INSITE too.

Even if this map is a oldie, it stands out with it's functionality(cut the warpzones:p)...
P.S. To Nahand: Are you sure that DM-Kheops even exists, not talking about even beeing in Nalicity?

P.S.S. To Nahand: Thanx man 4 letting me know of the existence of DM-Thoth! This map breaks Anubis balls! Sorry Anubis but thats the way the life turns and the way potatoes burns...

i'll go out on a limb and give it a 5.. there's just little weird things i don't like in this map - the warpzone, placement of certain items doesn't fit the flow , and some standard arch stuff seems missing (easy ex. no trims). nonetheless, it was decent for its time and i'm sure if the author were to make this map today to stand up against the current crops of maps it'd be a lot better and different.

oh, and did i mention that i hate egyptian themes? that theme's been beaten to death already. :/

Good flow of gameplay. Bots are well pathed and quite smart. For the old Egyptian them this is good one. Worth a download. Question to other comment person. The only Geddy Lee I know of is in Rush... so who are you?

I don't understand all the Anubis bashing. Even if you don't like the Egyptian theme, this is a fun map to play. I agree that some newer maps have raised the bar, but this one is still worth the download. Jez, wtf is your problem anyway?

Highly overrated. Suggest everyone tries DM-1on1-Rajan instead, better lighting, better colours, better textures, more z-axis gameplay... it's just better all round.
