Note: This is an old review, imported into our database. A few weeks ago, Action Force Studios sent some maps to Nali City. I never heard of them before, so let's see or these studios have some good mappers. I opened the readme before I played the map, looking for more info about these studios. Those guys wrote the readme in German (so they're from Germany). This is no problem for me (I live in the Netherlands, so I can read German), but I think the readme is useless for most people. Anyway, enough about the readme, let's go to the map now. The location of this map is (as the title says) a city. The city looks quite good. At least, if looks good if you have a super fast computer. The poly-count out side is very high. More then 250 in the most locations, and even above 600 in some areas! This means the map is unplayable for the people who don't have a PIII 700 and a GeForce... So the outside of the map looks good, but it's unplayable. Let's see how things are inside the buildings. The difference between the inside and the outside of the buildings is bigger then the difference between night and day! The inside of the buildings is in one word ugly. Just some subtracted cubes. No detail, nothing what looks nice.
The floor plan of this map is okay. It's nothing really special, but it plays well. The map has some streets and some buildings. Everything is well connected. The bot play of this map is okay. The bots played the map well. They didn't get stuck, and they picked up the items.
The second bad thing about the map is the sound. The author didn't include music or sound effect. This means it's a quiet death match. Just the sounds of the footsteps and the weapons. This is very boring after playing the map for a while.
This is a nice map. Architecture is okay and it plays well. If you have a fast computer and you want no sounds during a death match, this is a nice map for you. For the ones with slower computers I cannot recommend this map.

| Nightmare | Rating: 0 | | all RIGHT! A map where I need a top-of-the-line computer to play it! PASS!
| Turboman | Rating: 8 | | it ran well at my celeron 720mhz 128mb ram and viper550 and 19.0gig hd, even with resolution at 1280x960 and detail to the limits
| Lustmord | Rating: 4 | | Hey Turboman, NEWS FLASH! Not everyone can afford to upgrade just to play a mediocre map. I recall the system recs saying something about a PII 266?
| Shao 04-12-2003 04:40 PM MDT | Rating: 0 | | This maps lag..... Even i have Pentium II 300MHz with my video card....
| UT : Xan 04-12-2003 06:15 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | Nice detail outside but runs quite slowly PS - You can add or change a map's music by using UnrealEd. Ask for more info
| Smeerkat 04-13-2003 01:19 PM MDT | Rating: 6 | | I like this map. With a bit more work (sound, music, breaking glass), it could have been as nice as Plutonic's UrbanUprising.
I do have a GeForce 3, though. Today's machines should be able to handle it.
| Moonrakeron 09-09-2003 07:09 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | nice map,quite amusing.Too bad people still uses prehistoric PC :p
| gyokusai 11-22-2003 10:09 PM MST | Rating: 6 | | No quibbles with the polycount, my rig eats maps like this for breakfast. But indeed--why putting so much effort and detail into the exterior, while completely neglecting the interior? And why no music, no ambient sounds, no breaking glass, no nothing? Why leaving moving elevators and everything else in ghostly silence? This is frustrating, especially since the map itself (bots included) plays very well, and I especially like those ledges around the buildings so you can work your way down from higher ground. In most city maps, you have to use the stairs, or you're toast. Feels like playing Spidey! ;-) Dang.

| Jez 01-03-2004 05:37 PM MST | Rating: 1 | | Whats so great about music anyway? A lot of maps just use the standard epic tracks anyway, and theyre just fine. Quite a few maps dont have any music, but it doesnt distract from the gameplay one bit. Sometimes having no music adds to the atmosphere. Ive been playing UT since it first came out and I would gladly play any map without music. If it has music then great. If it doesnt, so what?
| Taydawg 01-03-2004 08:27 PM MST | Rating: 0 | | ugh. cant play it. thought i had fast computer. ugh....
| Tsunami 01-04-2004 01:32 AM MST | Rating: 4 | | i see that this map need A nice compp.........
| DarkOrphan 12-09-2004 01:08 AM MST | Rating: 10 | | It was fairly decent.. except for the low use of sound and music. Bots played fairly well, I would have given it a 6 to 7 or so but these people with prehistoric comps think that a map has to run on any machine possible.
TIP: If you can't run a fairly constructed map properly, don't blame the map, blame your computer for not having the capability to run it.
| redfist 12-09-2004 02:30 AM MST | | A map should run smooth for ut,A map needs to be optimised as part of making a level.but one can purposely desighn a map just to see how slow or what it can do. But in DM speed in all sections should be equal or as fast as one can make a level run per given machine.
