Along time ago there was the MSUC, this was one of the better maps Aside from a serious lack of ambient soundFX and a screenshot DOH! DM-AF-Centralmetro-105 lays down some tracks for the best "realism" maps entered in that distant contest. Made by Action-Force Studios, Centralmetro portrays several subway stations connected by a working rail system. That's right, you jump on a car and, *no noise*, off to another station you go to frag or be fragged some more.
The big lowdown:
FUN I heard shooting up the subway can be good to vent frustration, however the stations tend to hold more moving targets than the platforms.
Play A touch on lag is scarce. So unleash the flak and take the number two back.
BOTs They get their "fare" share, and even take the train.
Flow A bit slow, some areas take you away from the ride.
Items You will learn to grab the armor before the bots, no problem.
Theme This map screams (silently) subway.
Architecture Extremely well done for the poly load, nice train cars.
Lighting Bland yet well defined, a few colors hint at spice.
Textures The best part, well placed/aligned/selected/scaled. Top notch.
Sound what sound?
The round up: An excellent photo-realistic map with great architecture. The bots need some help but other than that the lack of ambient sounds or even music will drive you away. Man, I know there was a deadline for the entries, but really, this needs to be vollversioned 1.06 or something. Having the sound of an approaching train and the squeel of its breaks would intensify the theme. A well selected music track and screenshot should also be due the downloading public, even if we're riding for free. Again, an excellent map.
