DM-8Ball1c is a rocket launcher intensive map authored by Chuck Pritzel (Snakeeyes). If you believe that death is a part of life, this map may be for you. It's fast, it's designed for 3-8, and it's a blood bath.


This creation appears to be made by a good mapper in a hurry. It's as if there was going to be a LAN party going on the next day and he threw something together the night before for the boys and girls. It's designed so the geometry hides other sections of the map so as to speed things up. There are several levels to the map, catwalks, a basement with a water leak, and exploding walls where chunks fly off now and then.


Panel textures were used throughout much of the map, and not much in the way of base. Again, the author appeared to throw some paint on the walls, as was apparent by texture misalignment in some areas.


The bots went to all points near and far. The only problem I noticed was when they would approach the cutout by the razor gun. They would run into the wall and try to keep going until they were dog food. There is a section of exploding wall which disappears, and when that piece is gone, the bots can make the jump to the razor. The AI just couldn't handle the concept of what was going on. As you spawn you'll be ejected out onto the floor by a mover. You'll most likely come face to face with a rocket launcher and a bot or two if you play with as many as I did. Besides the launcher there are a few other weapons including a redeemer when all seems lost. Health was here and there, not too much, and a couple of powerups.


The lighting was appropriate to the source. The lower section with the flooded floor was dark and the rest of the place was light well enough for you to dodge the "incoming." There's no music, but some mover sounds and some ambient stuffĂ–.not like you'll really be able to hear anything with all the rockets whizzing by your head.
