DM-3rdspacebeacon is basically DM-2ndspacebeacon Second Edition. Bertoid lists all of the changes in the readme file for the level, so I won't go in to them here. If you haven't played 2ndspacebeacon, then here is a BRIEF description, as a full rundown of the level would take up about 35 hard drives. You are on a space beacon that is INCREDIBLY LARGE for a beacon. There are many structures outside and there is a complex sewer system on the inside. You can snipe from everywhere almost, there are MANY z-axis opportunities (outside the complex there are about 5 "stories" of buildings plus many objects that extend far above the complex.). There is nothing wrong with this level architecturally or otherwise: except for playability. The size of the .unr file for this map is 14 MB. This map is huge. Gargantuan. It is smaller than 2ndspace beacon (but only slightly) and there's a BIT less curved architecture so the polys go down a little bit but this map is still really unplayable. Bert says in his readme file that he has a few 800mhz machines at work that can take this level fine. I have a p3-600 and I am constantly stuttering when entering new areas of the level. Sorry Bert, we don't all have 800mhz machines so I have to deduct points. Don't even try this level on less than a P2-400 mhz machine.
Not much else to say here - it's a good level if you have the horses to drive it.... it should be a 9 rating, but that playability factor really sends the ratings down the tube. |

| Ivan_Yavanoh | Rating: 5 | | LEVEL: It is a HUGE level. I still find myself getting lost in it. If only tou could play with 20+ bots! It is really fun, but you get lost and your often overwhelmed in all the detail! (It's not like it's BAD or anything!) SYSREQS: I have a 345mHz computer and it ran fine for me! When I first ran it it ran at 2 FPS. You just go into UnrealEd and cut out alot of those curves in it. If that dosen't work, reduce the resolution to 400x300, grahpics to 8bit-with low detail. Then use your imagination! Go ahead, try this-it works. It's a really great level! TO AUTHOR: Good stuff here!
| NoBoDyNoPrOoF | Rating: 9 | | this map rocks .....i have a p2-400_voodoo3_256mb of ram and it ran great with the graphics turned wide open .....i look forward to new beacon maps
| TΣRMIN@TOR 05-31-2003 01:09 PM MDT | Rating: 9 | | i agree with nobody. and if anyone out there is still playing UT on anything less than a 8oomhz pc then quite frankly you need a new one. a got a p4-1800mhz pc and this map is absolutely phat. It is ridiculously huge though because of the iris doors used throughout the level.

This is one humungous ginormous map, and very dark, almost black in some places. Being such a big map it loses a few points from me due to the lack of flow, a bit more for being 14mb (around 10mb larger than most maps), and a little more for lack of gameplay because youre wandering alone for the most part.
This would probably work better as a DOM map if it was smaller and/or the flow was more intuitive. (A little extra lighting here and there wouldnt hurt either).
It's certainly not the best map out there, so whether you can justify 14mb for one map in your maps folder is entirely up to you. Personally it wont be staying in mine.
4 for effort and to bring the overall rating down to a more sensible level.
Way too big for a deathmatch. I couldn't find anyone to frag. *yawn*. Next!

| Nimbostratus 08-16-2004 01:03 AM MDT | Rating: 5.5 | | This map is made well, though its way too big and would require a ton of players/bots to be able to find somebody to frag within 20 minutes. I'm also not too fond of dimly lit areas.

bots play bad (EXept in the lift) and if u put 16 bots in the map .. u can say , that u see 2 of them "FOCKING HUGE MAP"
