Note: This is an old review, imported into our database. Huge. Gargantuan. Epic (no pun intended). Don't *even* think of playing this without a top shelf machine and a boatload of people, at least 10 (this is one of the few maps in which you can really utilize more than 20 players). DM-2ndSpaceBeacon is the entire shooting match, folks, on a tremendously grand scale. The UT follow-up to Bert's Unreal map, DMSpaceBeacon, there is a *lot* to see here, all over (and under) the place. Plenty of open space, a sewer system, occupiable buildings, 'curved' architecture, energy beams, pulsating colored light tubes of unknown function, great sniping opportunities, good item placement and a really fun layout. There are switch operated lifts, dark passageways with a bounty at the end...it's just fabulous in these regards. I would have given this level a higher rating, but it is so huge, and so detailed (check them poly counts), that you really need tremendous horsepower to run this puppy. Still, it's quite an ingenious level, and Bert has obviously taken a great deal of time with it. Bots will follow you most places; just make sure you have enough of them on hand or you'll turn this into a real hunting map. I give it a hearty thumbs up, if you have the horses to drive it. |

| Ulukai | Rating: 4.5 | | Runs very slow even on my quite hefty PC. Looks very ugly, lighting is crude. The large size and "stalking" that can be done may appeal to some, but I just didn't like it.
| fragswill | Rating: 0 | | waited for 5 minutes, but it didn't load
| Lustmord | Rating: 3 | | I selected this one for DM and took a shower in the time it took to load up! Made my PC weep and shudder like an addict on withdrawl. Good for someone using an OC-192 connection with 20 Gig of RAM and a Pentium X. Nice slideshow, though.
| Turboman | Rating: 6 | | not that bad, but everything has a boring theme, but the poly's where low
| simon_saiz | Rating: 9 | | Right on! I played this with 2 friends against 13 bots on TeamDM. The bots kicked our arses. It's almost scary the way they team up and stalk me. As big as the level is I still can't get away. I didn't have any play problems but I've got a new system. It's too bad "others" don't appreciate the talent and dedication that goes into a level like this.

| minionofdestruction 06-23-2003 04:12 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | This map grows on you. The first time you play it it's a confusing, gigantic, horrible maze, but once you get to know your way around, it's a cool map.
The one thing I would criticize is that this map is unbalanced in your favor if you snipe the whole game while playing with bots. Although bots do use the translocator to get some items, they don't use it to reach some of the higher places in the level, where sniping is useful. Whenever I play this map with bots, I just sit on top of that low gravity building and snipe my butt off until I win. Being on top of this building gives you complete view of the main outside area of this map.
| FTPlus 07-26-2003 09:45 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | I liked this map. Its huge no... its Enormous. You can play this map with alot of people but you need a heavy pc. I like big maps, but even I started to feel all alone :) You can play this map with more the 10 bots, they'll move to the most common areas so you'll always find fragmeat around. But with players there is the possibility you have to search for eachother. Also its a heavy load voor both server and client, because of the enormous size and heavy polycount. Another minus for the scening, it start to look dull after a while with all the grey around.

| Vindicator 06-07-2004 01:45 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Great map, if you get a lotta players/bots onto it.
| GTD-Carthage 06-07-2004 03:36 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | I saw this map a looooong time ago.
It was big but old.
| Manticore 06-07-2004 05:20 AM MDT | Rating: 4 | | Good for a bit of a stroll around.... and that's about it.
