Child genius or wonder freak?
Not big enough for two, ultimately someone must go. 1on1 Prodigy by Axle_Striker2000 cosists of a small prison yard like setting with watch towers and high tension wire topped perimeter wall. The psuedo-symmetrical layout and well defined verticle variance make this level a bit up on the z-axis fragometer. The short horizontal distances and hazardous respawns decline the virtuosity this map implies by name. Fun: Ideal for very light player loads. A trist worked best splitting the recommended count of 2-4.
Playability: Polys were on the harsh side considering the basic architecture. Spawn kills were easy due to the limited size.
Bots: Sensational, will put up a fight and not run into the wind like a mime. Use the lift and Translocate, the marvels never stop.
Flow: The higher ground is the place to be. Snagging the choice items then dropping on your opponents.
Items: Different areas favor different weapons, but it will be the Flak Cannon that will rule this map. Don't forget to grab the Armor on the bridge while you're up there getting the slag master.
Theme: Can't really be a prison yard with all the cover. However, good continuity and presentation.
Architecture: A stretch version with maybe more areas eh? Small with good form and possible function.
Lighting: Well sourced and applied. Some color added for variation. Make sure that alll lights of a size, shape and texture representation get the same hue. Too much variation borders disco.
Textures: Needs trim to prevent poor transistions. Ex. Most noticable on the Flak Cannon ramp where the floor texture abruptly shears to a non-matching wall for the yard. I believe for once, the chain link fence texture would have suited the bridge better than the clean glass. I flak'd myself more than once thinking I had a clear bead on a target below :p
Sound Mover and music. Some reasons for ambients, like the lights and grate covered drain.
Not a masterpiece, this level is a rough gem non-the-less. The concept of "prison with weapons" can be expanded on with the dimensions of the map. A good model for a more refined deathmatch, 1on1 prodigy I hope will pheonix into perfection. Or in other words... now that I've burnt it, lets look for a rebirth :) |

| 12inchDildo | Rating: 5 | | After playing a bunch of 1-on-1 maps lately, this isn't one of the better ones. The flak really does dominate and witht eh flak and armor up high and such a tight level, it is easy to sit up on the high ground and keep the other player down in 1-on-1.
| REiGN | Rating: 8.5 | | I can't agree with the score...I rate it about 8.5. Sure it's small...IT'S a frigging 1on1 for crying out loud!!! I have had some epic battles on this map. The layout is good, it's got a decent elevator positioned quite nicely(you are able to kick onto the roof from it). The bridge has that well placed glass floor...I really like this one.
| gyokusai 11-04-2003 07:13 PM MST | Rating: 6 | | Nice map, with a lot of punch. Weapon placement is cool, and it's fun working the flak again to rule the map (reminds me of my UT noobie time). But the design is, maybe, a little bit too simplistic, and there's not enough atmospheric design, to keep eyes and ears interested for long. Game flow rocks, though :-)
