DM-1on1-SweetNothings indubitably takes a cue from Quake 3's House of Goth Style, but keeps it sparse enough to be tasteful. The gradual curve of the corridors push the polys a tad, but systems should be fine under normal player loads. Lighting is descent but for some overly garish red-orange near the Rocket Launcher.
The map's two long parallel corridors which comprise the map make real 1-on-1 a bit too much of a hunting match in my opinion, although 2-on-2 teamplay is great. Weaponry pits two Shock Rifles against a Rocket Launcher, all spaced far enough apart to prevent map domination. Tourney purists will take cognizance of the health vial lines in a couple spots. Bots tend to double-jump the launch pads but otherwise play well.
Sweetnothings has a couple other things going for it that you don't see in your average UT map. The first thing you'll notice on spawning is that you start out in a holding cell of sorts, facing a sort of hazy portal into the map proper (see lower screenshot). It's a nice touch, but keep in mind it's only a pasted-in graphic, not a looking-glass--it would have been nice to make this a true portal, to help keep you from spawning right in front of your Rocket Launcher laden foe. The playing field itself is larger scaled than most UT maps, with wide overhangs and arena areas; this does well to alleviate claustrophobia and gives you room to make effective use of that RL or shock combo. Messages pop up when someone snares the Pads or Armor, which to me seems kind of superfluous but I guess could be used in opponent location (albeit without indication of who picked it up).
Won't be everyone's cup of tea, but definitely worth a look. |

| -xSsHocKRx- | Rating: 7 | | Looks too much like faceless's DM-Edge][
| David 'DAVIDM' Münnich | Rating: 5 | | bad layout, and it looks ugly
| [VS]Smokey | Rating: 5 | | When I play UT I wanna play UT I don't like Quake so plz make a UT style map. I had fun with the "prepar for battle" I walk forward and back in the room you respawn in(LOL) PRE PRE PREPARE PREPARE FOR BATTLE
| zeep | Rating: 6.5 | | nice map, nice idea with the spawning. the only thing that really bugs me is that you get stuck between the jumppad and the 1st floor edge when you walk on the jumppad from a certain angle. :-) cya
| Gladiator | Rating: 8 | | A good tourney map.
| tomsASS666 | Rating: 7 | | Generally good with good flow and some nice effects. The crucified nali rules!!!
| DjRaziel{J} | Rating: 6 | | Fair, though too open for a tourney map and way too ugly. You just have to admit: "Q3 maps just won't go with UT"!
| Nebel | Rating: 8.5 | | I like.
| GodFather | Rating: 9 | | nice map. I enojoyed this map the most with 4 people.
| DancesWithSnoopy 05-27-2005 04:46 AM MDT | Rating: 6.5 | | This is a great 1v1 sniper map!!!!! I absolutely love the tactical prowess this map demands in such, but in with all weapons Its not so fun 1v1, I prefer it with 6 or so players, then its fun. But sniper arena seems to be what this map lends itself best to doing. In that area its great, weapons 1v1 is mediocre. Free for alls are great. The map, textures and lighting I found all to be great. Ill keep this on my server.
