Well, here's a grandiose project for you. Wow!! DM-1940sraf appears to be a faithful recreation of a Royal Air Force base with all the accoutrements. But what this level gives to you in detail, is taken away in frame rates.
Man, I wished I could give this map a higher score because of all the work that went into it. But the open area and the polys just doom it on an 'average' computer. You play a large, outdoor, area at nighttime, and you really feel like you're at an airfield with all the architecture Angelheart provided. Burning airplanes look like airplanes, tanks like tanks, a tractor-trailer looks like a real tractor-trailer, it's a trip! The author really worked hard trying to keep to the theme, and the bots explore the largest majority of the territory.
A lot of the textures were custom made: Barbed wire, tree lines, vehicle tires, hanger walls, and camouflaged tanks all added to the overall look Angelheart was going for.
A few buildings were lit up by light bulbs, but the bulk of the lighting comes from the ambient starlight overhead. No CD music in this one, but there are some mover sounds.
If you have a relatively fast computer, and like playing large outdoor maps that reproduce a war theme very effectively, then the large download might be worth your time.

| Lustmord | Rating: 6 | | This is the shit! Unfortunately, on my PII 400, it ran like shit.
| Turboman | Rating: 2.5 | | yuck
| Ebola | Rating: 6 | | The score above is what this earns on 500+mhz machine. Anything less, and I defer back to Q on the score.
| utjunky 08-13-2003 05:19 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Very nice! I have 833 mhz, so I don't have any problems with this map. It is long, but I like the detail and the obstacles, such as the bunkers and towers from which you can hide an dplug players. Don't download unless you got the Mhz and RAM, otherwise nab it!

Yeah, I remember this map from years ago (groan, another old map review shows up). It's cool. It runs fine on my G4 867 and I actually played it back then on a 240Mhz Mac clone. A good looking, fun theme map. The thing I dislike is the occasional darkness.

but you couldt atleast workd a little harder on the tank turrets.

| TheGreatWill 04-04-2004 02:37 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | One of Angelheart's first maps, it ran well on my old VooDoo3. Bots were ok, but I think that was the mod's problem.
The recreation the base was pretty accurate, if not a bit too dark. Like I said, one of his first realism maps, and it actually works well. Should play his latestest map though, they're much better.
| Manticore 04-05-2004 03:13 AM MDT | Rating: 5 | | His maps have gotten better... much better.
This map is (generally) too dark. It would be good in a theme based mod.
Good for a look though....
| volkov 06-10-2004 11:34 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Works champion on my PIIII and Directx 9.0b(TM)i like the planes and the burning planes and tanks and various other stuff. the lighting is one of the biggest problems. mabey an AS varient would be a good idea for this map...
