Get in, sit down, and shut up!! We're goin' for a ride. CTF-TerraMines will keep you on the edge of your seat; it's a nice, symmetric CTF map.

Most of each base is carved into the mountainside, hence the mine theme. In between the two bases are more mountains with carved out tunnels and rooms. What I like about the map, besides the way it looks, are your choices for returning a flag: You can try your luck with the direct route, i. e., running back through one of two cutouts in the central mountain and then home, or you can run into the enemy base, teleport to the central mountain and work you're way back for a point. Both routes are equally challenging. Snipers usually are posted right above the flag on a catwalk, and bots are usually guarding the tunnels inside their base. Dodging the bullets from the snipers isn't super bad, but then you usually run into bots in the central mountain that are intercepting your movements.

The bases have a strong look to them, complete with block and lots of steel. The outdoors has plants, grass, and a good mix of mountainous textures, all aligned very nicely. Metal crates are here and there, and provide good duck and cover, and even a challenging blind spot sometimes. I did notice a BSP error by the red flag, up on an ammo ledge. It's difficult to notice, because of its location and it's dark there, and it doesn't seem to affect the gameplay any.

The bots know what they're doing. They run through the warp zones when they feel like it, snipe away as they should, and generally try to cover all the bases so the match isn't a walk in the park. The item placement worked fine: Not too much health, and plenty of long-ranged stuff: miniguns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and shock rifles.

The lighting was also good. The author, Kain, created light fixtures that were heavy looking, so they augmented the theme. These fixtures, although of the white light variety, did the job and were befitting the surrounding lighting. There is music, ambient sounds, including the circling birds, and lift sounds in this 6-8player map.

Map looks good and plays good. I think i agree with the review.

Though I'll admit this map is fun to play, there is one thing I do not like about it. Most of the map is ripped from the Unreal 'Nyleve' map and therefore a lot less original.

Kain
yeah the the bases are ripped from the nyleve base but that's not a problem (they compliment the map rather than detract from it), and I gave credit, AND a map is not made just by bases alone (the rest is 100% mine).

at least it looks clean

this map has unreal monsters in it >:-

Don't ask why i had the readme for this one but mr Unknown is Simon 'Kain' Cass. And who cares if little bits have been nicked from old Unreal after all isn't that the whole point in keeping Unreal on your HD.

Lustmord Rating: 5
No, the point of keeping Unreal on your hard drive is it's still a fun game. Yeah this is an OK CTF level, but the "unknown" author didn't invent it himself. Hence, I give a low score. So Nyah Nyah.;p

Ah... what does it matter? This is a decent map so go download it. It's not the best map ever, but it is nice in it's simplicity.

I think I'll just go and rip an entire U1 map and add weapons and playerstarts to it. That way all the n00bs will give it 10/10 and I'll become a leet mapper since it obviously doesn't matter if I don't actually make the map myself...

Don't review how the map was made, you idiot. Review the map. As long as it looks and plays good (and this map does, to some extent), it's OK with me. Maybe the author of this map didn't put his name on it so he wouldn't be putting his name on someone else's work? Did you think about that?
