Unreal Tourney CTF games tend to be large group affairs, with the average player load ranging from 8 to 16 players. But what if you don't have that many? You can of course include bots, but they sometimes tend to act like, well, bots. So what's a party of four to do?
CTF-Sym provides an answer. The author recommends 4 or 6 players, and he means it; the great bulk of the map is just a ring with the two flags on opposite ends, with a corridor cutting a diameter between them. With a map this small attack and defense meld into one, and the latter is aided by absolutely brutal autocannons above each flag.
Respawning takes place in an armory, where you'd best stock up, since there aren't any weapons in the ring, just a few health vials and a shield belt in the center of the diameter.
With a map as simple as this, flow should of course be no problem. Unfortunately, there seem to be nicks carved out of the outer wall, with the effect of snagging you if you hug the wall and making you swear alot. Whatever purpose this served was surely counterproductive. The map doesn't look particularly hot either, but there's not really much here to decorate.
Still, it's the gameplay where this map shines. Life is simply intense here; the autocannons will tear through you if you try the straight diameter route, and the narrow corridors make the rocket launcher all the more deadly. While there aren't any weapons in the ring, they're not too missed as you'll pick up enough from those around you to get by, and you probably won't live long enough to exhaust your ammo anyway.
Not convinced that something this small and simple can be so fun? I don't blame you; I still don't know why I like it. I'll tell you, though, gameplay is awfully furious, and sometimes you'll be hard pressed from the action to even check on the status of the flags. So if you're looking for some small scale action that still pumps the adrenaline, this may just be up your alley.
