Tikamungo (whatever that is) is a large base that you must infiltrate, and you 15 minutes (!) to do so. 15 minutes sounds easy, right? Ha! Silly mortal.
There are only two objectives, and they are as follows:
1) Enter the base and find two switches that will allow access to the reactor room
This is really quite difficult as the switches are an envelope of nearly pitch-black. Look for the cluster of defenders.
2) Enter the reactor room and hit the panels to destroy the reactor
While two objectives make this sound like a short assault run, the base is immense and the frustration is of equal proportions when on the offensive. To boot, your main weapon is the plasma rifle. I'm not sure why, but there's a LOT of them in here. Then, there are half as many barfrifles, which is still quite a few. The frustration really mounts when you have to take a very long stroll down to the farthest switch, run into a swarm of defenders, die, then get sent ALL the way back to the farthest point possible. Imagine doing this for about 10 minutes. I even massed my army and attacked as one whole throng of plasma firing freaks. We all get levelled, and sent back to that same point. The only change that actually takes place after about the five minute mark is that every minute thereafter, I start swearing a little louder each time I get wasted.
Defense keeps you on your toes, but now you have access to the ASMD...er...shock rifle. This is quite a handy thing in this map. I think I got about two mo-mo-mo-mo-monster kill-kill-kill-kills, three ultra kills, and countless multi and double kills defending. I usually end up getting destroyed by e pluribus unum rockets that have locked on to me, or by my own teammates. Unfortunately, for me anyway, I managed to tackle the base finally after about 13 minutes. I failed to defend the base by a marginal 23 seconds remaining. *frikkinfrakkinmudderflappin...grumble*
Bot play wasn't too bad, but there were few small scale skirmishes. It was usually the full eight against eight war! With a little bit of luck, you might actually come out standing. They attacked and defended well.
As far as layout and design goes, it looks really good without massive poly-counts. Lighting breaks up the monotony by carefully using oranges, but not pineapples, though a few spots were too dark for my tastes, especially around the large crates. All-in-all, a fairly good assault level.

| Caesar | Rating: 6.5 | | I think this map deserved what it got. I liked it especially at the beginning where you stock up on plasma guns and CHAINSAWS! Assault is fun, and I like the look of the map.

It may look big but it's a very short map with only 2 objectives; pull the levers and enter the reactor room. That's what I don't like about assault maps, once you've completed them there's no replay value. They're a bit like very short single player mods, unless you string several assault maps together, or if you're into sad lan parties :p
| Sgt.G 04-16-2004 10:50 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | I have really mixed feelings from this map. For a start its utterley frustrating, but in a weirdly good way. Unfortunatley, the size means the you really need a minimum of 16 players to get a good game, and it would benefit from more than 16.
Even with 16 players I found it was possible to just make a break past the enemy, if I didnt get lost that is. The map is huge.
As for the bot support, its bloody good. They have a nasty habit on congregting on corners and in tight spaces forming a good defence, thougfh occasionaly the attackers fumbled around a bit.
The weapon placement adds to the feel of the level, and I love the chainsaw, pulse gun thing. I think its a great map, but its maybe not for me.
