The objectives in this map are very simple - it basically involves navigating through a short course and destroying a set of controls at the end of your run . Sounds easy , no ? Alas , that is not so after numerous efforts at this map . But let me build up the hype a little bit here .
The map is set in , what else ... a submarine base . You start off from a sub at the docking bay and make your way into the building just ahead , which has its entrance on the side not facing you . The base actually looks very good and has a good WW2 movie feel to it since it's night time and it's dark . This feel is accentuated by the 'prison guard tower' searchlight effect which revolves to illumine the pathway .
Playability however is where this map fails . Bot-pathing , item placement and worse of all , turret placement makes this game very frustrating to play . All three factors combine to give you , the attacker a really hard time and gives the defenders a very unfair advantage .
First of all , the items are bunched together in the middle of the floor smack into the bots' pathway . Which makes them all look pretty stupid , doing a conga line slaloming around to get the weapons and health packs . Next comes the turrets which include one automatic cannon and two machine gun turrets , which can all shoot right up to the submarine where you start from . And horror of all horrors , the items themselves are located in front of the turrets too !!!
Even on Inhuman , the bots don't know better to avoid picking up those items ... even if it means they're gonna die in the process . The turrets are also too deadly , that is , it takes a miracle to even see the entrance of the building . By the time you turn the corner , your health is 30-40 points and even the generous amounts of health packs scattered all over the maps are no consolation since they take you in the path of the turrets as well . There is also no place to take cover from turret fire safe for two miserable tanks whereby the bots will easily gun you down with a carefully lobbed flak grenade .
It's a no-prize to deduce that I've grown absolutely fed-up with this map and have given up trying trying to assault the base . I would love to say the toughness becomes a challenge to spur you on to win but it's not , this map's just plain tough and in the end , defeats the fun purpose of playing UT .
