Put on your best asbestos sunglasses, you're going for a swim. CTF-Pyro is a pretty challenging map with plenty of lava, decent bots, but some framerate problems in a couple of spots.
The map is symmetric so the teams are balanced. The bases are set in a lava lake with a tower structure between the two. An upper walkway has plenty of room to dodge incoming missiles, but a lower, narrow catwalk, which rides just above the lava, is death defying. The front entrances to the bases have a lava pit complete with flames. Translocators are recommended, but I never use the things, however, the bots did during the game as a shortcut to the sniper post. The author, Nightshift, recommends 16 players, but my matches had 8 and it was challenging. The framerates are going to hurt some lower-end systems, my system did fine. This is mainly if you're using the sniper posts.
Crypt textures, a reddish sky, and dull lava gave the place a surreal look. Everything has a red hue to it, as if you've just entered Hell. The textures actually helped to spruce up the somewhat simple geometry, but I wished the lava wasn't quite as dull. Overall, though, I did like the looks of much of the map.
The bots were good fighters. For most CTF maps I've played, my team wins. Maybe by a little, maybe by a lot, but this map seems more challenging. When I did win, it was always a close call, plus my team did lose. I liked that. I never noticed the bots translocate for the redeemers, but neither did I. The item placement could maybe use a little work: There are two rocket launchers complete with ammo as you come out of your base, but the less powerful weapons are around the back of the building. It might have been nice to make you go out of your way of you wanted to fire off rockets. The damage amp requires you to walk a narrow beam into the tower in between the bases. By the time you get out of there and get close to a base, the amp is about timed out. I like this idea, because you're not running through the enemy base with an amped-up rocket launcher.
The lighting, as I mentioned, was reddish. It gave the whole place a creepy feel. Inside the bases red lanterns shine, and outside the red sky and lava do the rest. There are plenty of ambient lava sounds, and some music.
