HOLY CRAP!
Words can't begin to describe how awsome this map is. Think LavaForts, only on some incredibly moutainous terrain and with bases like in Tribes and you'll have some idea what this is like. I'll let the author describe the setting:
Story Line
----------
In 2327, Shock Systems funded an expedition to colonize a recently detected planet in the Andromeda system. Dubbed 'Project X', a team of 16 highly trained professionals were sent to setup the first colony outside our galaxy. Two bases were established and the Oxygen generator was setup. About a month went by with no problems, then all communication just stopped. Several probes were sent and the information they returned is very puzzling. No lifeforms were detected over the base camp. A military investigative team was then deployed checked out the base site. Both of the bases were deserted, but still in good condition, so Shock Systems converted the bases over to a Capture The Flag format for Unreal Tournament. Some of the military team claimed they heard strange noises coming from one of the caves, but no evidence has been found to support this rumor.
Did I mention the bases were massive and you've got a huge dropship in the middle, AND tons of other routes through the mountains and lava caverns? This map is truely massive in scale. The terrain is excellent. It is clearly evident that the author used TerraEdit to his advantage here. The ship/base architecture is astounding too. Even on their own, the bases and dropship would be amazing. Excellent texturing and lighting add to the effect. If I were to score this map on looks alone, it would get a 10.
But I'm not :) Generally the map plays very well. The multiple paths and valleys to the opposing base work extremely well. My favorite area is the lava caverns near the dropship. Not only are they beautiful, but it provides an easier route to the enemy base, since the bots don't seem to use it much. I had no trouble getting anywhere in this map. As far as flow is concerned, it flows very well. There's plenty of room inside the bases and multiple paths to the flag.
It's easy enough for me to get around, but not the bots and this is where ProjectX suffers its greatest fault. The bots don't seem to know their way around this map very well. I saw dozens of instances where I would order my teammates to attack only to see them get stuck by a wall or ledge constantly trying to grab an item they can't reach or running into walls. The only way I was able to get them to go for the flag was to order them to cover me and run an assault on the enemy base. Even then I found they strayed off by the lava pits. I can only recall 2 instances while playing where the other team actually coordinated and assaulted us in a group. Otherwise, it was just one or two stragglers who would meet for a firefight in the middle and that's it. I'm not sure what the problem is here, but could it be too many pathnodes?
Bot issues aside, this map does everything else right. It balances defensive base tactics, like sniping and camping just inside the courtyard, and the need for a strong coordinated offense to capture the flag. Weapons seem balanced too, but I would prefer a little more ammo outside or near the bases, especially since you almost have to play this map with 16 players or more.
It's too bad that this is the author's final edition, or so it says in the map's screenshot, this map would be perfect if the bot issues could be fixed.

| BizKit | Rating: 9 | | Good game shame about the bots, ace dropship area
| Shockrifle | Rating: 9.5 | | Goddamn it looks good. I wish the author could teach me how to do that with terraedit. Pity about the bots, but then again it's pretty clever the way he got them to walk into walls. I could never figure that out.
| Denis Lavoie | Rating: 6.5 | | I can't conceive that map being over 7/10. First, the framerate drops to about 5pfs when there is more than one player in view. Second, you can transloc absolutly EVERYWHERE. I play with sniper riffle freaks who barely NEVER MISS their targets and there is WAY to much places for those suckers to hide on top of mountains.
| [LEGION]Legion | Rating: 9 | | JESUS CHRIST that thing (whatever it is) in the mountains scared the s**t out of me
| Warlocke | Rating: 9 | | This is quite a map. There are a lot of places to go in between the bases, and yes, "IT" will scare the crap out of you, even when you know it's there. As a matter of fact knowing it's right behind you is scarier than not knowing where it got to... This map is great with the UT4E mod (plug "IT" with fire arrows to keep track of him), and the Chaos mod isn't bad on here either (mostly the turrets). All in all, a fun map.
| The Dopefish | Rating: 8 | | I agree that this map is too overrated. The framerates hit pretty low, even on beasts like mine (Athlon 650, 256MB RAM, Radeon 64). Still, it is a good looking map, but not one I'd play for keeps.
| IronTitan | Rating: 9 | | When I fought "IT" it scared the sheet outta me! And, if any of you are wondering what the hell "IT" is, well, it's a- **IronTitan was ripped to shreds by "IT"**
| PhoeniX-Ned | Rating: 7 | | Good map, only framerates are very low. The creature in the cave rocks!!!
| Michael 'Bot_40' Rippon | Rating: 9.5 | | Firstly, I have a P3 500 with a TNT2 and I don't have and framerate, it's constantly above 25fps. Next, I never encountered any problems with the bots. If you want to find out what 'IT' is, wait till about 12 at night and play this map with all your lights turned off. Then go for a nice stroll in the caves. ¶-D Download this map today.....or tonight. B¨}
| Lustmord | Rating: 8.5 | | Hot Damn! With the exception of the FPS getting a bit low, I had no real problems with this one. I played with some friends, and the messages I got when one found the titan were too funny.
| Teowulff | Rating: 9.5 | | Agree with 9. This map is HUGE but plays very weel, I love all the extra's. Bots don't play too intelligent but defend good as hell!! For big Multplayer-games this map is perfect :-D
| rauchster 03-19-2003 01:54 AM MST | Rating: 9 | | Great map, and IT is some kind of super skaarj warrior that kills you fast. Of course, if you can sneak by IT, you can grab the enhanced shock rifle, and blast IT's hide to pieces.
| Damarus 04-04-2003 06:15 PM MST | Rating: 9 | | This is a great map a must download in all UT CTFs
| Claw 04-05-2003 07:33 AM MST | Rating: 10 | | totally sweet and sexy!!
| Stakhanov 04-05-2003 08:20 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | Texture choice and purple lightings are questionable , but this freaking huge map looks nice and smooth and has a very well thought out layout. Theme isn't very usual , but there are nice atmospheric touches on most places. An other excellent 16+ players map... where on earth shall we find all the needed gamers ?
| KurtonTheMagician 05-17-2008 08:36 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Anyone who thinks this map is very slow must be running it under 32 MB RAM with 1024x786 resolution.
One of the better space-age maps I've played in a while.
Only problem is it took my team's bots about 20 minutes just to grab the flag.
Overall, very nice. 8.
