From the title of this map , one can easily deduce that it has a Stargate theme to it . With ring teleporters , desert sand floors , egyptian motifs on the wall and the huge pyramid that houses your main objective ; doesn't leave much doubt that it is .
Anyway , the mission objectives are pretty simple - navigate your way through the maze to the pyramid at the other side , go through the ring teleporters to appear within the pyramid then rush over to touch the teleporter which i assume is supposed to resemble a stargate . Of course , the pyramid is going to be well guarded and there's another problem of having random teleporters in the maze ! Yup , the author included certain hotspots that are time-triggered , working to swiftly whisk you away to another place in the map . It's actually quite easy to notice when they're activated though , the surrounding area turns a greenish hue . There are also movable walls - serving to bar your way or confuse you further with that annoying sound they make when they slide in and out of place .
The maze gets pretty frustrating at first - the teleporters and the sliding walls are just plain confusing , making it a chore to get through . It's easy to get lost in it and wander around aimlessly , finally stumbling back to the starting point . The bots navigate the maze with varying results - I've caught them fighting and shouting 'Man down' when I'm just only picking up my ammo . On the other hand , I've seen them get caught behind those walls i mentioned and also just standing around waiting for the teleporters to activate . Which then brings on the trouble of the bots not moving at all even when the green light's on or even them telefragging each other when they go rush at the spot all at once . As the defending team , this can bring on long periods of inaction .
The insides of the pyramid doesn't fare much better . The ring teleporters are pretty cool but there are only two of them and acts as a bottleneck , slowing down the game , therefore allowing the defenders to catch up . The main bone I have to pick with this map is when you step through the ring teleporter - it makes you appear directly before two machine gun turrets ..... in total darkness ! This has got to be the cheesiest ploy to whittle down attackers' health . I've also gotten the end of some primary flak shrapnel from defending bots when I appeared directly next to them !
The map does look pretty grand from the itsy-bitsy screenshot i took , doesn't it ? Unfortunately when viewed up close , misaligned textures reared its ugly head . The sky itself was the first one i noticed ... the moon / planet has a white vertical gash running through it ! ... as does the mountains in the background . I also had high expectations of the 'gate' at the end , the ones in the movie and even the series were pretty huge , intricate design covered stuff - not in this one though . All in all , I can't really say I fancy this map , maybe I'm just a very picky person . But hey , if you like maps with themes then this would be a nice distraction from the norm .

| (CKY)Paranoia 12-05-2003 05:09 PM MST | Rating: 5 | | THis map gets to be a pain in the butt to play but its still fun to play if your a stargate fan like me. i wouldn't, however, down load this if i only had 5 mb left in my harddrive. needs a different ending. you jump in the gate and you freeze and wait for it to load the next round. it also needs to be longer. overall the map is jusst under ok.
