CTF-Ogre kinda grows on ya after awhile. Although it may appear extremely simple at first glance, you begin to see there is more to it than meets the eye.
The layout is symmetric, the framerates very good, and dangerous liquids can put you in your place. The bases seem to be built inside a carved out cave, with flowing lava, a centralized rock formation that hides your view of the other base, and elevated sniper posts. Teleporters help you to get up to the sniper posts, and if you go around behind the bases you'll find another teleporter to take you up to the centralized rock formation for the redeemer. Once on this rock formation, you have to jump to get down, which means your death unless you're maxed out on health. Wooden planks lay across the flowing lava streams, and lava pits reside under the flag bridges. There is basically only one route to each base, but you can take a right or a left as you circle around the central rock.
There is lots of rock, some wood, and the base buildings are block. Blue and red lava help to keep you oriented (as does the lighting), but some better all-around texture alignment is in order.
The bots defend at the sniper posts, picking off an opponent now and then. There is no pathing to help the bots reach the redeemer, so you'll have no competition for it unless you play against real foes. Bots also work as a team, and seem to be very solid as a whole. The item placement was pretty good: Besides the sniper rifles, you have bio rifles for short-range base defense, or shock, pulse, launcher for long range shootouts.
Colorful lighting from the lava, white light from fixtures inside the bases, glowing statue eyes, and lots of candles light the way. The author, Sean 'C.H.U.D.' Swanson, included some music and some ambient sounds for our listening pleasure.
