Niven is considered by most rational people to be either one the worst or THE worst epic CTF map. This map gets no points for Awe or Build since practically nothing has been changed from the original Niven. If there is, it isnt worth mentioning because this map, like its original, is fugly to its rotten core. Gameplay is just as bland as the original. One path to each flag base, and two paths to the enemy base; Underwater or through a single corridor. The Prophets Verdict: Niven was a bad enough map to subject yourselves to, why make matters worse? EDIT: In light of the recent flood of le rip off maps and conversions, this review is being updated.Z-E-R-O.

This review is absolutely worthless in objective value and I would rate it's usefullness lower than the map rating. What makes it an LE? (Which is League Edition, Limited Edition?). Somehow I doubt the weapons are exactly the same as well. I have a CE (Clan Edition) version that is symetrical in weapon placement. And IMO, Niven makes for some killer, adrenaline-filled matches. Is it a great level? Maybe not. But I've had some of the absolute most instense matches on it years ago on my old fav server Stoncold's. mattie 02-04-2003 07:08 PM MST Rating: 7   I play niven quite a lot and I enjoy the map with a lot of other people. Maybe it is because I always play it with instagib? First of all, in case you didn't know, this is not some "user"-submitted map. Talisman is one of the best mappers on the planet, and made several of the maps that shipped with the game. Also, keep your opinions what they are - do not try to present them as facts. You may not like Niven, but it is still a good map. If it wasn't, it never would have shipped with the retail game. It happens to be one of my favorite 2-vs-2 CTFs, actually. So all I'm saying is smarten up and learn how to write a review. See, first off this review is ages old, so welcome to last year. Second, somebody submitted this map to NC, slapped LE on the end and added it to the database. Why would should this map get a good score, even if I like Niven? Truth is, this could be DM-Codex-LE and I would have still scored it the same. Why? Because these are stock maps that some yahoo hits with a extra appendage in the title and perhaps a few items switcheroos and suddenly this is a fresh map? Pu-lease, and you commenters should be ashamed to be so naive. We all bought UT and we all know Niven comes with the game. That was 5 years ago, and stuff like this is just stupid and a waste of time. Publish some real maps or even some real conversions and stop expecting us honest reviewers to grade these LE clan maps seriously. It's like asking movie critic to review a bootleg copy of Pulp Fiction and rate the quality of the Bootlegger's attempt to portray the film on his grainy camcorder.
