Map DescriptionThere it is! I hope you like it.
I know I could have spend much more time with it and maybe it could be better, but my motivation was going down zero.
Again I used Hourences tex' (all in myLevel), but this one is bigger then the last (DM-1on1-EpitowSE) so you can play it with three players.

Edit: I'm working on a new Version of the. It'll nearly completly rextextured and I changed the Itemplacement.
You can dl it with the FragsOfTime which will be released in the next weeks...

Ithaqua][ follows the path started by Movar and Epitow. Small maps for small playerloads with great archy and good gameplay. Very similar in theme (if not equal) this one is a step up from the other two.

If you have played the other two maps from milb (sure you've played Epitow) then this one will be familiar to you. Is set in a mining facility and unlike most maps taking place in mines this one actually has that mine part. The author created some terrain that even if its a bit pointed in the spot with the water, overall he did a good work with it. You'll see the terrain in ceilings, floors, wall... everywhere and very well blended with the rest of the brick walls and floors. Also there's wood on the floors, metal beams and arches and all the tech stuff you have seen in any other map by milb. Its not a bad thing cos in fact this map has some really interesting architecture that reminded me of dm-sion. Unfortunately, lighting is not at the same level as the archy. Is not bad but found it to be a bit too dark. Even the textures used for lamps are dark and it was hard to me to see bots/players. There were some spots were players were totally invisible due to the lack of light. Maybe milb should have added some extra ambient lights here and there. Overall, the blend of warm and cold color lights ends in a very atmospheric map.

As in Movar polys were quite high at some spots. In the central zone you can see all three levels and polys can reach the mark of 600 and that caused me some noticeable slowdowns in the main combat zones. After a quick tour in the editor I found that the author deleted all the brushes of the map (dunno why, maybe afraid of ripping, or just to reduce the filesize) so i couldn't check the level of optimization. Still I think that better optimization is possible in this map as I spotted polygons that could be merged etc. I also did see a big amount of blockplayer actors. I wonder whats their purpose but sure could be replace by a single invisible collision hull. About the lights I gotta say that some surfaces (lamps) should be marked as bright corners cos they look too dark. Also placing a small light to lit up every lamp texture would be a good idea I think. And about the sound setup I must admit that is very good. Pipes humming, flies, birds, wind... just one grip, theres a flowing water sound in the lil puddle in the bottom floor that shouldnt be there imo as water is not in movement.

I cant give the highest score because of the two problems i mentioned before (lighting and slowdowns) and its a shame cos for the rest it really deserves it. The map has a good layout with three floors, bots navigate the entire map with no problems and they take all the stuff. Items, even they could use a small adjust at some places, they do not hinder the flow but maybe ammo should be with the weapon as some may say that is a bit scarce sometimes. Health was ok with the usual two med-box sets and some vials in ramps.

For all of this I encourage you to give this one a try and a note for the author: due to the darkness (it might be just my computer) most of the hard work you put on decorate the place will pass unnoticed to many ppl and is a shame I think

i agree , great map !

terrain addition give a awesome feeling , and the use of textures is perfectly executed , all the littles details all around your view , great . lightning give a impressive feeling to the map , turquoise , orange , red , excellent . nice job so far , milb .

@Kanhtam: Hehe, I think everyone has richrig even if it's just a cutom pack.
@Vertigo: Thx for the review. Nothing worng with. I have to agree with you, this map could have been much better. But like I've said, my motivation was gone. May I release another fixed version, now I know whats wrong and how to change it.
The BlockPlayerthing has a reason. First they don't destroy the whole map with a huge HOM. Second you can shoot through.
@Weapons: I'll put some redeemers in the next map, will surely be fun!
Edit: You could jump into those walldecos if the Blocks weren't there. This cool font is cocaine sans, just search at google. I don't know where I get it. The other font is base02.

Kick a$$ map milb i loved it as a beta and i love it now. Very good archi boosted by excellent lighting. Layout and floorplan are very well done. Playing this map is very fun and it's also a fiest for your eyes

great map!
the first thing that impressed me of course were the visuals, tried it out with bots afterwards and it played really good as well. maybe some parts are a little dark but that's just my taste and can be solved easily. in some areas i got stuck though and couldn't figure out why which was a bit frustrating cause it made me an easy target...
all in all this map has quickly become one of my aboslute ut custom favorites :D

This is honestly one of THE best UT maps I have EVER played! I absolutely loved the theme. It felt like you were totally immersed in a mine. Not to mention, the use of terrain throughout the entire map... very tricky :D way to go Milb!!!

OK, this map has the potential to be a truly classic map! The layout is good and the visuals are absolutely stunning.

However, a second version must be done, and not only because of the optimization:

1. The ammo placement is all fine to me, if you run low you must go and collect some. This adds tactical depth. But the problem is there is not enouch weapons. OK, maybe it was intentional to drop sniper out, but Ripper? I mean, here it could actually be used. With such a small map it becomes easy to dominate, but with more weapons at least the just spawned guy would have better changes.

2. The Bio rifle is in such a place that it never gets used. Its very hard to use anyway, but putting it to the bottom takes away even the rare occasions it would have its mark.

3. The damage amp should be replaced by a regular armor vest, to make it harder to dominate.


I really would apreciate a second version.

Gotta agree with Scirmast, weapons are too sparse for such a compact map. Graphically it's really good, but the lack of weapons forced me to end the match early. I don't know about everyone else, but I hate fighting with just my Enforcer.

DAMN, now that I saw the new hotlist, I noticed that I still didn't post a comment on this one... Shame on me!

Well, actually, I don' have to add much to the review, the map plays very nice, even better than Epitow, because it has better connectivity between the levels.
Item placement is good, no complains here.
Geometry is good as ever, well, Vertigo is right about the high polycounts, but as usual, I don't rate this (you know why^^).
Only think I didn't really like was the lighting: I couldn't get familiar with that mixture of blue-green and yellow lights so close together, and by the way, the map is truely (too) dark in some places.
But overall, a very nice map, like we are used from milb. -> 8.0

Everything is and seems quite good, the map "flow" to me feels to convoluted and hallwayed to death.
The lighting is nice but bothers me to see somehow, it's a map wich is a ut04 look and play to it.
Definitly better than average but not 9's and 10's.
And map is NOT compact, it's a little too big with ramps all over.
