Damn it, must get ut2004 just to play kami's maps. But then i need a new computer.....oh well. Hey Kami are you a big ff7 fan?

CursedSoul1 09-26-2005 08:49 AM MDT | Rating: 9
who isnt a big FF fan. (screenshots dont give you the right feel, download and play this map!!)
This map has it all: Very nice layout! Very nice Meshes! Very nice textures! (might be a bit dark, bit it fits) Very nice item layout! Very nice Atmosphere! Very Nice Detail! Very Nice Lighting! Nice Scale, some parts do feel a bit big, on one side that makes close combat fun, on other side, it can he hard to run away.
The only think I miss is more animation, more movement. I cant decide between an 8.5 and a 9. I so hope the Map of the month will be anounced soon, else this map will kick sirea off the 1st place :p
edit: ok let me add the scale comment ;)

I agree with Cursed Soul everything he mentioned is top notch in this map. But he didn't mention scale. Scale is a little bit large but can be lived with. This map is very fun to play and is already on many of my favorite servers. That says it all.

Added this beauty to my mapraider map picks. It is truly a work of art in all places yes I agree the size is some what larger but you do get used to it.
My only complaint is no new music it would have made all the difference.

A1 mappage. Enough said......

the lighting and texture work on this is unbelievable! actual scale wasn't an issue, but i kept cornering and killing bots under ramps and in blind corners with no significant pick ups. i am not that good with the RL. and you have a monitor display under some stairs..

Well, this is better than the UT ones for gameplay,I'd say your best one so far. The only thing is all this theme theme theme,I would rather have the top or center or somthing have more variation to the rusty red gray-metal all over the place.Like throw in a blue or green or some colored lights to offset the "theme"
I have no FPS problems ,runs very smooth, and this level is good for DM,I don't understand all this scaling stuff, but the map is NOT too big,It is about the right size and layout for the game.
Posting an 8,the gameplay brought it up,unlike your UT maps wich are supposed to be awesome, this level is the best so far. To be picky,I see the lights on the steps are slightly off to the right, looking at the steps(the small fanned lightbeam mark) One other picky thing,i forgot was those angled dips the square chopped off ,sideways pyramid indents. I know one probably don't want snags either, but the dip looks as if it should be walkable, but the blocking is there ,no biggie,I would probably move it back to as least feel a indent bump and not get stuck. Oh, the bullets hit the sky. Just a suggestion is all.
Just played it again and man it is one of the best DM gaming maps around for ut04,very snappy level, good job.
EDIT I am completly blown away by some of these gameplay comments. I believe this is the separation between the new ut04 gamer kids thinking they know what a good match is,to us old quake1 and up players.
Well KAMI this map is your best layout so rock on man. His next level will be a good mix from this and the super good looking mapping from the past.
And for once me and cursed agree,it's about time he came down to reality,heh......
I think those guys play ons or somthin.

Excellent! Each frame you get looks as cool as the three above screens... I did not think the layout was so special until I noticed how well thought is the placement of each item. The crates add interesting gameplay to the map, too. The only thing I dislike a bit is so much empty space around the ShockRifle, maybe a couple more of crates there... :D

Gotta rate this one a bit lower....
The meshwork is fantastic, however, there's little to no coloring, and the greys don't make the mood as they should. It looks very chaotic, and very hard to find your place in. Also, there seem to be a few unnecessary details, like the 2 terrain meshes which add some polygons and textures, without having a real reason to be there (especially the one in the small middle hall). It just misses *it*. For some reason, i think lightning would make the theme stand out a lot better, but that's just an odd quirk...
The layout looks a lot like Viridian's, at it's core. However, the lack of jumpers makes it even less variable than viridians, and i couldnt really get into the level without running in circles or 8's the entire time.

absolutely great map! i was so waiting for this map since i read the announcement on bu :) i had pretty high expectations but this map is even better than what i had expected. the only things i'd like a bit different are the lighting (more contrast - it's too grey) and the scale (in some places, e.g. the boxes seem bit too big imo). i like this map best with insta as 1on1 :)

Really good job on the texture and stastic meshes, the layout is pretty simple, and the map sounds more like a 1on1 to me. The white lightning is a little confusing until you notice the "epic-Retail" moon in the skybox.
Nice job

fantastic mesh work. it just goes to show that even the smallest maps can have hours and hours of detail work applied. some complain about the lack of color, but i find no qualm - the theme of this map is carried throughout, and it works with its dozens of small white lights. ironic that i don't have a problem, since i use as much color as i tastefully can in all of my maps. there are some things that do seem a bit over the top, for instance a computer monitor that is built in to the wall underneath a stairway...i also find the ivy growing in the main room to be very strange and out of place.
aesthetically, though, this beats almost all of ut2004's stock maps.
gameplay is rather bare-bones due to the simplicity of the layout. this is either good or bad depending on your preference. my preference does not effect the score i give.
worth a download? yes.

Visually good map, but gameplay could be better. The layout is uninspiring and too open. Framerates could be a bit better too. I think you should spend more time on the layout part.

SamRo 10-05-2005 07:09 AM MDT
the meshes and textures are really well done, same with the buildings around/on top. the layout ist much too open and/or the scaling is too big. the worst thing is the lighting which is really boring in my opinion. you could probably use the texture and meshes ( i think nearly everyone will agree that this is the strongest part and what they liked most in this map) for one more map.

Good to see a new 2K4 review, by a returning reviewer

Vert I can't believe even w/o myslef having played it yet that a KaMi map gets a six! lol You sick twisted f*ck. ;) I could probably just give it an 8 or 9 w/o even playing it. Then come back after dl'ing and playing and mention an affirmation of said blind score.
BTW map rocks.
And vert, we didn't need to see the rest of the review anyway :p ;)

hey thats my very humble opinion. btw the review is not complet for some odd bug.it happened to me with the review of DM-Resin. i already contacted MassChaos
and i repeat im sure Kami is aware that he's done better maps!

Usually, when checking out a map, I give it a look, play it a few times, then I'm done with it. But I just kept on playing this one.... Man, I love the execution of the theme :D
