Map DescriptionDuring the second water war on Hell's Gate IV, your forces have pulled up a heavily fortified commando point near one of the major wells which feed the planets capital pipeline. Controll over this region would ensure a sufficient quantity of fresh water for your people that would last for years, while at the same time effectively cutting most other factions from the supply line. Unfortunately, the enemy did once again foresee your actions, and if it wasn't for the viscious sandstorm scourging the dry plains, you could almost see the enemy war-khan prepare for an open assault on your fortress...

Being a large out door map, most of the layout and visuals come from what keeps it from being flat and boring landscape. While the haze in the sky blocks out long range sniping, there isn't much for obstacles throughout. Of course in the center are the author's static mesh buttes, which hide the center node well. The whole map is pretty much made of static meshes, with few made by the author himself, which one could interpret the map as more of a Lego like compilation. All of the buildings surrounding nodes and the bases themselves are all stock meshes, including the pipeline itself.

Not much for texturing. The ground looks good with lighter and darker areas of sand, with paths to nodes showing through as well. The author's choice of textures for parts of the building meshes just scream *yawn.* I mean really, they're red and blue team colors, but they are flat and bright and have this unlit brightness to them that look rather funky.

Lighting is mostly done by zone lighting, which does a good job of giving off the red/orange desert sand glow. Very little for lighting otherwise. The sniping room in the bases are too dark, with the lights in them having a puny radius of 16. All the other lighting is just to add glow to jump pads.

BUILD: 2
Ambience isn't bad, the wind can be constantly heard as deserts tend to be windy. Fluids can be heard flowing through the pipeline, and there's that blue jay that has seemed to have gotten itself lost in the galaxy... Teleports work well, though they could have been in the open more to be more easily seen. No problems with the jump pads either, other than jumping back down is a pain, litterally. Skybox isn't bad either, with the dust blowing over and the planets sun beating down.

CAST: 2.5
The gameplay is what makes the map. 5 nodes allow for a variety of node paths. The default path is set up like Torlan, which is fine, but it's hard to recover once the opposing team has taken all the nodes. Bots navigate well, but they seemed more worried about capping the center node, which isn't the best tactical strategy. The bots also didn't seem very enthused about attacking the core once the route had been connected.

Item placement needs work however. Be mindfull of your health, because there's only two health chargers in the entire map, and no vials or kegs either. The weapon lockers could be closer to the first and center nodes. The one in the center being placed on the opposite side of the hellbender, forcing you to run around it first. Vehicles aren't placed well either at the nodes. The raptor takes a bit of a hustle to get to at the first node, while the junkpile nodes have the vehicles placed in front of the pile, with the node behind, again giving you a longer than wanted run to one.

SCORE: 6
While a 6 isn't the high score everyone is looking for, it still is a good map and very popular. Certainly worth the download for your rotation.

every now and then a map is released, i simply pass it off because i think its another half a$$ed map, but the name made me curious, so i looked at the screens and began to dl, so then i got to test it out, and let me tell you first off that this map is an amazing piece of work, the main bases are done VERY well, this is the first onslaught map ive seen that uses minigun turrents and twin beam turrents, (the ones found in the back of a hellbender) now wat makes this map so good you say, well its the presentation, it ran very well on my pc, most likely because the ground was sand and stuff typical desert terrain, and it didnt really need alot of detail, the link nodes are done good also, it even has some structers from torlan, which adds some very nice decoration, the link nodes themself are set up very well, and there are a suprising amount of link setups so all in all this is by far one of the best user made maps, this is a must dl and i recommend it i give it a 10! keep up the good work. Also ive noticed a bug in the game, on the minigun turrents your character dosnt show up in them, and PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE THIS INTO A VCTF MAP!!! it would be nice for this particular map :)

Great map, but the lack of Health Pickups(they exist, but are as rare as the Damage Amp) just ticked me off to no end. Other things that really bugged me was the placement of certain items in relation to their base and playerspawns. On one set of Nodes the Weapons Locker is behind a vehicle, on another set of Nodes Vehicles are spawned "outside" of the area and are not visible until you run around to them, and at another set of Nodes you can spawn ontop of a tower with no way down but to lose 60ish HP(only to find no Health Packs).

With that rant done, it is still a great map and a recommended download.

added: Hmm, I thought it was, but ran over it repeatedly and nothing happened. I'll have to try it again. :)

raging matches. I've logged fifty games probably on this map online and I am not bored with it yet. This map is fun fun FUN! :D

I've gone crazy with comments this evening and so many people I know from UP here. Haven't eben here for a while cause of ftp and blah blah but now I am more familiar with web stuff so I will try again with this site. Again a top notch ONS map. Although when I die, I just keep dodging and I constantly dodge off that damned tower lol just ahve to get used to it I guess... I keep hating to give numbers to people I know though... I'll give this map an eight. But only cause it just needs minor details.
More smoothing on certain parts of the terrain
Better spawn layouts
No mantas in the bases?
Minor Popping in the skybox/fog blend

very well made and stable. nice layout. good weapon placement and great base design. my only beefs were it was a bit too plain in spots and the intense brightness made my pupils run and hide. i love the music.

This level is amazingly good, it has got to be my favorite ONS map by far, I don't know how or why but it is virtualy perfect.

I really like this, though i'm not exactly mad on onslaught... I'm only really disappointed that I passed this gem by for so long! - I guess thats my only criticism about this map - an uninspirational name for a great map, threw me and made me think that this was just another one of those so-so maps that people love simply because its more onslaught.

Otherwise, theres a great theme (tbh, I almost felt like I was a teeny foot-soldier in an RTS game, fighting over resources so that command could build more vehicles ^_^) supported by a nice selection of (what seem to be mostly) stock meshes, appropriatly selected. The nodes feel like they have really been thought about, tackling classic onslaught balance problems and looking just right at the same time.

A must download for certain.

I liked it, some work obviously was done to get this map put together.
The layout mimics arctic stronghold but with much less z axis (yay). the turrets are fun as can be. polys could be a little less intense, but it is most definitely playable.
this map isnt without its flaws, however. there is an odd collision hull placed on a side mountain, for instance, that one can run all the way up, yards above the ground below. bots frequently stick at the bottom of one of the ramps from the main base in vehicles, but it'd be hypocritical of me to nitpick this, since i have trouble with bots being dumb retards in my maps as well.
one unforseen bug is that the new "swap team sides" option the patch brought puts the red core in a blue colored base, and vice versa. if the patch didnt come out before i uploaded my map, it too would have this problem. bases cant be color coded in onslaught now :(

This map is excellent!

I haven't played Unreal since Unreal 1. But some of my buddies said, hey this demo is cool, so I bought it. Then late one night I was playing on a server and this map was pushed to me. I was so blown away, that I decided to learn the editor.

I love the storm in the sky. I love the bases. I spent my first five minutes in the game, just walking dumbstruck around the base (I died a few times). Then someone said "Am I the only one playing?" and I said oh yeah, I forgot I was in a game. So I started to play. And many was it fun. I love the node setup. I love the way you used the Torlan towers to protect the nodes. Fantastic Map.

So for inspiring me to become a mapper (which I am enjoying a lot) thank you!

Hopefully I'll make a map as cool as this one day :D

This isn't a bad map at all, and the atmosphere sure feels right. But it feels too big, and requires at least 16 people to see action, and it runs quite slow on my rig, and I'm in the mid range. But overall, has a good theme, and flows well.

Good flow, consistent atmosphere and strong ONS gameplay mark Donator's ONS-Pipeline. If you're wondering why it's so popular, here's why:

AWE(2.0): From the provided shots, you get where the author is coming from: dry, dusty and thirsty plains with large metal structures and sprigs of scrap metal heaps sprouting from the ground. While a few of the larger areas in the bases can feel a bit open and plain, the overall Awe rides high on the many elements you run into during combat, all working within a consistent theme.

BUILD(2.5): While ONS-Pipeline might not be a complicated map, the scope of the work and the polish applied is satisfying. Donator's skills are shown off by providing the machinegun turrets you see in the screenshots. Botplay is strong and the map is solid overall.

CAST(2.5): So many options in this map. If you're really into defense, MG turrets. You like death from above? Raptors provided, and the airspace is varied and interesting. You'd rather snipe? Donator's got you covered. Although the defense systems at the bases largely go ignored in favor of blazing out on the open plains in a Scorpion or Manta, the fact that there *are* fortified positions for your team's vehicles and core is a big, big plus.

OVERALL: 7.0 (-> round up to 8)

I 'm d-loading the map right now == i havent played it yet, but:
TURRETS RULE! Put (more) turrets on onslaught maps!
Shocks are good, but turret are the good oldies :P

A good map, I had lots of fun!!! but I had like more defended powernodes(bunkers etc).. I like the gatling guns on hte main base they are fun!!!!

Edit: I agree with the VCTF mode as said here below that would be cool!!!!

I love this map! i cannot tell you how much i love it, ok i can but it will take forever. this is my favorite user made map, and i think this map would be great as a VCTF map, so if you could please convert it over to VCTF :) if by chance you do this, place the flag where the powercore is. keep kickin teh butt :D

Bots are idiots and at times seem to wander around randomly and they can't figure out how to use the tank. Still fun though.
